Intel has updated its NUC X15 reference laptop. The device, which debuted a year ago, received an update: Alder Lake processors and discrete Arc graphics cards.
More specifically, there are two versions: LAPAC71G and LAPAC71H with a Core i7-12700H processor and Arc A550M and Arc A730M graphics cards, respectively. There is also mention of a certain version of the C51G, which is expected to receive more powerful components.
Interestingly, the original NUC X15 offered either GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 3D cards. So, either the Arc A550M and A730M should be comparable or even faster than Nvidia’s specified solutions, or the laptop upgrade will be very strange. But for now, we don’t have any performance data for the mentioned Intel graphics cards.
As a reminder, the NUC X15 laptop is a reference device. Intel does not sell them itself, as it does with NUC mini PCs. Instead, laptops can be purchased by partners of the company, stick their logos on them and sell them as their own products.
Mark Gurman: new Mac minis with M2 and M2 Pro processors are already in development, but they will get the old design
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman told the news about future Mac minis with M2 and M2 Pro chips. He told about it in the Power On newsletter. According to the journalist, Apple was working on a Mac mini with an M1 Pro processor, but now this is clearly irrelevant. It was planned to be released at the end of last year or at the beginning of this.
Instead, according to the expert, models with M2 and M2 Pro processors are expected. However, their design will remain the same. The new Mac mini, codenamed J473, will feature the M2 chip. The version with the M2 Pro received the code J474. The source notes that Apple does not plan to release Mac mini with M2 Max or Ultra chips, most likely they will be kept for Mac Pro.
As for other models with M2 chips, Gurman believes that the Mac Studio may be a short-lived product, since it is positioned for the same audience as the Mac Pro. Also in the fall, the MacBook Pro is expected to appear with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors.
Previously, Gurman reported that Macbook Air will only appear in old colors.
The Nintendo Switch Lite has a cheap competitor. Retroid Pocket 3 Handheld Game Console Launched With 4.7″ Screen, Quad-Core Processor And Android 11
Retroid has unveiled the Pocket 3 handheld game console with a design similar to that of the Nintendo Switch Lite. The novelty is inexpensive ($120 for the version with 2 GB of RAM and $130 for the version with 3 GB of RAM), but the performance is far from impressive.
So, the configuration of the Retroid Pocket 3 includes a screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels (frame rate – standard 60 Hz). The hardware platform is based on the SoC Unisoc Tiger T310 with one Arm Cortex-A75 core at 2.0 GHz and three Arm Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. The GPU is PowerVR GE8300.
The console runs Android 11. It is endowed with an HDMI video output (the maximum resolution of the broadcast picture is 720p), a 4000 mAh battery, a standard headphone jack, and a pair of speakers. Sales of new items will start on August 20, while pre-orders are being accepted.
PCs with Intel Arc A380 graphics cards from Acer will arrive in Europe soon, and MSI is preparing a model with a very budget A310
Video card manufacturers are still starting to look at Intel Arc accelerators little by little. MSI recently showed off its version of the A380, and now the PC PRO DP130 12th has appeared on its website, which contains an even more budget card – the A310.
Its specifications are unknown, but the source believes that it has 4 or 6 Xe cores, 4 GB of video memory and a 64-bit bus.
But Acer has already placed ready-made PCs with Intel Arc A380 graphics cards in the database of the French retail chain Boulanger. The novelty contains an Intel Core i5-12400F processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The issue price is about 950 euros.
So far, such computers can only be pre-ordered, shipping is expected from October 8th. Thus, we can expect that Intel will soon announce the global launch of sales of its video cards.
Earlier it was reported that Intel graphics cards do not work well with older games. The company is aware of the problem and is addressing it.
