Intel Unveils Clover Falls, AI Assistant Chip For Laptops

Intel today unveiled Clover Falls, a companion AI chip that the company plans to ship as an expansion for commercial and later consumer PCs.
Intel described Clover Falls as “a robust helper chip that helps make PCs smarter and more secure with the power of Intel’s artificial intelligence.” The chip will be installed on the laptop’s motherboard, “bringing new opportunities for lower power consumption to the computer, helping it to recognize and adapt to its environment.”
Explaining the functionality of Clover Falls, Intel claims that the chip, for example, will help the system automatically adjust display brightness when a user is detected. It looks like Clover Falls will become a kind of AI-based coprocessor, performing low-power semi-passive monitoring.
Clover Falls is said to be an integral part of the Evo project, which is coordinating Intel and its partners to create high-end notebooks. Intel has promised to reveal details regarding the new AI chip at the CES 2021 consumer electronics show in January.
