Already from the first tests of Intel Alder Lake processors, it was clear that they would at least compete on equal terms with the current AMD Ryzen processors, but the latest test even indicates the possibility of Alder Lake dominance. At least the flagship of the line, the Core i9-12900K, performed very well in Cinebench R23.

In a multi-threaded test, it scored over 30,000 points. 30,549 points, to be precise. For comparison, the 32-core and 64-thread AMD Threadripper 2990WX scores 30,054 points, while the “civilian” 16-core and 32-thread Ryzen 9 5950X has 28,782 points. It should be remembered here that due to high clock speeds, Intel has always had good results in single-threaded tests, but in multi-threaded tests, AMD CPUs usually dominated. We can say that in this case, the blow was inflicted in red on their own field.

Recall that in the Core i9-12900K configuration there are eight large cores and the same number of small ones. But due to the fact that multithreading is supported only by large ones, the processor can simultaneously execute only 24 threads. The maximum frequency is 5.3 GHz, the volumes of the second and third levels cache are 16 and 30 MB, respectively. In Cinebench R23, the Core i9-12900K was tested with DDR5 RAM.

In any case, what matters to us is that the GPUs on the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 can run at 3GHz without extreme overclocking.

It’s no secret that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards need powerful power supplies, but official recommendations from Nvidia partners vary.

Some manufacturers follow Nvidia’s recommendations for a standard 850W PSU, but many manufacturers list 1000W PSUs as recommended, some even insist on a 1200W PSU.

Asus recommends a 1000W PSU for its ROG Strix graphics card. Asus suggests this because the company assumes that users will be overclocking both the CPU and the GPU. The Gigabyte Aorus Master and Zotac AMP Extreme/Trinity RTX 4090 graphics cards have the same power supply recommendation of 1000W.

The results of testing new items in Furmark have already appeared on the Web. In the msi-01 base test, the GPU frequency reached 3 GHz, and the power consumption was 426 W, but in the notorious Donut test, the frequency, although significantly lower (2.64 GHz), consumed the card almost 616 W! This test loads 3D cards much more heavily, which, as we can see, has a noticeable effect on power consumption.

In this case, the tests were carried out with a liquid cooler and, judging by the core frequency, in overclocking. Of course, without overclocking and in games, the consumption of the RTX 4090 will never reach what we see in the Donut test, but at the same time, such results mean that this is far from the limit for the adapter, and consumption during extreme overclocking can only be imagined .
