Intel has a solution to reduce the monstrous power consumption of its new processors. Raptor Lake gets DLVR regulator

The Intel Alder Lake processors already released to the market turned out to be very productive, but also very voracious. At least this applies to top-end CPUs. The next generation, called Raptor Lake, could be much better at this.

Previously, on Intel roadmaps, a mention of some DLVR technology was already found, but now it became known that it is. It is a Digital Linear Voltage Regulator. According to the Intel patent, this is an additional voltage regulator located next to the main one. This solution can significantly reduce CPU power consumption.

In particular, DLVR can lower the voltage on the processor by 160 mV, which leads to a 20-25% reduction in power consumption. At the same time, a 21% reduction in energy consumption results in a 7% increase in productivity. Considering that Raptor Lake will allegedly receive up to 16 small cores instead of eight in the current CPUs, any ways to improve energy efficiency will clearly not be superfluous.

Xigmatek Air Killer S Cooling Systems Fit Intel Alder Lake Processors

Xigmatek has announced the Air Killer S and Air Killer S Arctic processor cooling systems, painted in black and white, respectively. They are built according to the classic tower scheme, and the source names gaming table systems as their main field of application.

The Air Killer S and Air Killer S Arctic cooling systems are designed with four 6mm U-shaped heat pipes. The middle part of each tube is in direct contact with the processor cover, and aluminum heatsink fins are threaded onto the ends of the tube.

Mounted on the radiator is a 120mm hydraulic bearing fan with a nine-blade impeller. The rotation speed is regulated by PWM in the range of 800-1800 rpm. The maximum speed corresponds to a noise level of 25.3 dBA, an air flow of 140 m3/ h and a static pressure of 2.55 mm H2O.

The fan is decorated with multicolor backlighting. Its service life is declared equal to 50,000 hours. The dimensions of the cooling system are 160 x 128 x 76 mm.

The new cooling systems are suitable for processors with a TDP of up to 160W. In addition to the already mentioned Intel Core 12th Generation (Alder Lake) LGA 1700 processors, the compatibility list includes other modern Intel and AMD processors. No pricing information yet.

Acer Nitro 5 laptops with Core i7-12700H and i5-12500H processors spotted on the website of a French store

The source found three laptops on the PC21.fr site with 12th generation Intel Core processors (Alder Lake). In the configuration of one of them, the mobile video card GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is indicated. This Acer Nitro AN515-58 gaming laptop is built with a 14-core Intel Core i7-12700H processor and 8GB of DDR4-3200 memory. The display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels supports refresh rates up to 165 Hz.

In addition, the website of the French store confirms plans to release Acer Nitro 5 laptops (AN517-55 and AN515-58) powered by Core i5-12500H processor with mobile RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. In fact, this is the first time any retailer has mentioned such a GPU. Both laptops are expected to cost less than € 1,300 (inclusive of VAT), which is unfortunately higher than the starting price of € 999 for the latest generation of RTX 3060 gaming laptops.

Specifications for the RTX 3070 Ti are still unknown. The card is expected to have a stripped-down GA104 GPU with fewer cores than the RTX 3080 (6144) and more than the RTX 3070 (5120). The GDDR6 memory will be 8 GB and the bus width will be 256 bits.

As for the Core i5-12500H processor, it is rumored to have 12 cores and can execute 16 threads, which implies 4 high-performance cores and 8 energy-efficient cores. Clock rates are not yet known.

The release of these new products is expected in January, after CES 2022.

Sales of 64, 128 and 256 GB PNY X-PRO 90 UHS-II memory cards began

PNY has started selling X-PRO 90 UHS-II SDXC memory cards, according to the source, “designed to keep pace with the growing demand for high-definition photo and video recording.” The line includes storage media of 64, 128 and 256 GB. UHS-II support enables write speeds up to 280MB / s and read speeds up to 300MB / s. That’s enough for 8K video and burst photography.

X-PRO 90 cards are marked with the V90 speed class, meaning that the read and write speed does not fall below 90 MB / s. Of course, this speed is only possible if the memory is used in conjunction with a UHS-II device.

PNY X-PRO 90 UHS-II memory cards of 64, 128 and 256 GB cost 78, 130 and 240 dollars, respectively.
