Intel Alder Lake processors (Core 12th generation) have repeatedly shown their superiority over AMD Ryzen 5000 in synthetic benchmarks, and now benchmarks based on real Adobe applications have appeared. And in them Alder Lake once again demonstrates superiority. And this time we tested not the top-end processor of the line, and with DDR4 memory.

The test system included a motherboard based on the Intel Z690 chipset from Gigabyte, 128 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and, in fact, a 12-core Core i7-12700K. Interestingly, the PC was running Windows 11.

The test results are shown in the graph above. You can see that the Core i7-12700K is slightly faster in After Effects and Photoshop (by about 5%), and much faster in Premiere Pro (by over 20%). We will remind, the official premiere of Alder Lake is expected on October 27, the start of sales – November 4.

Several sources have shared details about the next generation MacBook Air. The well-known resource DigiTimes claims that the laptop will receive a Mini-LED screen like the recently debuted MacBook Pro. The new model will allow Apple to increase shipments of these notebooks by 2 million units per year. The report indicates that the 11-inch iPad Pro will also launch next year and will also receive a Mini LED screen.

iOS developer and Apple analyst, known on Twitter by nickname Dylan, has more details on the upcoming MacBook Air. According to him, the new product will be released in mid-2022, will receive support for MagSafe, a webcam that allows you to broadcast Full HD video, USB-C ports, a 30-watt charger. The device will be built on the M2 platform and will receive a completely passive cooling system. The bezels of the screen and keyboard will be reduced, and the top row of keys will become full-size. But there will be no FaceID system, SD card slot and HDMI video output.

The new Intel processors are likely to be more expensive than their predecessors. There are already prices for two new models in the US

It looks like the new Intel processors will significantly raise the price bar. A large American network MicroCenter has already added a couple of new Alder Lake generation products to its range.

The Core i7-12700K is priced at $ 470, while the top-end Core i9-12900K will cost $ 670. For comparison, the Core i9-11900K has a MSRP of $ 550, and Intel’s flagship model has always cost about the same for many years.

Of course, there hasn’t been an official announcement yet, so we don’t know the recommended prices. But today we have already seen an example from Germany, where the price was also above $ 600.

At the same time, it is hardly worth blaming Intel for such a pricing policy. First, the new CPUs will be much more efficient than their predecessors. What’s missing in the new MacBook Pros yet? Support for external video cards did not appear here either.

As you know, the first Apple laptops on the SoC M1 do not support external video cards. We now know this is true for the new M1 Pro and M1 Max-based MacBook Pros as well.

Despite the presence of Thinderbolt 4 ports, Apple’s new laptops lack support for external graphics cards, and the company has yet to explain this limitation. Perhaps it is primarily due to the Apple Silicon architecture.

Of course, we have already seen that, at least for the M1 Max, using an external video card may be pointless, but we will not mention the M1 Pro and the original M1.

Whether support for external video cards will appear in future Apple laptops with its own platforms is anyone’s guess. It is possible that GPU performance in Apple Silicon will grow at such a rate that discrete adapters will really not be useful in the corresponding bundles.

Recall also that the new MacBook Pro also lacks support for the latest standards for SD memory cards.
