Instagram reduces visibility of ‘potentially harmful’ content

Published

on

Instagram is implementing a new dynamic to reduce the visibility of content that can be “potentially harmful”.

A new dynamic that is combined with user reports so that inappropriate content is far from our feed.

Instagram algorithm will hide inappropriate content

Last year, the Instagram team explained how the algorithm works to display the content we see in the feed. While multiple factors are combined, posts are displayed based on the user’s interests and how likely they are to engage with the content.

But nevertheless, Instagram It is also using the algorithm to remove visibility from posts with “potentially harmful content.” When such content is detected, the algorithm will send the post further down the feed.

And to apply this dynamic several factors are taken into account. On the one hand, the Instagram system will search for matches with previous content that has violated the platform’s policies. For example:

To understand if something might break our rules, we’ll look at things like whether a caption is similar to a caption that previously broke our rules.

And on the other hand, the algorithm also takes into account the user’s reporting history:

We will also consider the likelihood that you will report a post as one of the signals we use to personalize your Feed. If our systems predict that you’re likely to report a post based on your history of reporting content, we’ll display the post lower in your Feed.

Combining these factors, posts with content that is spammy, hateful, or violent will lose visibility, as they will rank last in the user’s feed. So beyond user reports, Instagram enhances its dynamics so that this type of content does not have visibility in your feed.

The latest Windows 11 update can significantly slow down the

Last week, Microsoft released the traditional monthly “updates on Tuesdays” (Patch Tuesday) for its operating system. According to feedback from users who installed the update on their PCs, the Windows 11 update was not without problems.

The latest Windows 11 update can significantly slow down the PC

As users began to complain on social networks and on forums, the update can slow down SSDs and other boot drives, reduce download speeds, and so on.

For example, in a Reddit thread, user mesp21 says his NVMe SSD has more than halved its speed, from a nominal 7,000 MB/s to 3,000 MB/s. After removing the update, the speed returned to its previous values.

This post has received quite a bit of replies, with other users confirming that they are experiencing similar issues. Panellists also noted that game loading times were “noticeably” slower, and that there were “stutters” after the patch was installed on Tuesday.

Another user, Mrbigdog99, shared a screenshot showing CrystalDiskMark test results before and after the update, showing a significant slowdown:
