PCMag tested Verizon’s recently launched 800Mbps CBRS band, which confirmed that the US carrier’s customers can actually get speeds that often exceed 5G.

Verizon reportedly spent $ 1.89 billion to buy a CBRS license last year and is now using the new spectrum to improve 4G connectivity in certain areas. In the coverage area of ​​one of the base stations, the downlink speed on the Verizon 4G network reached 815 Mbps, but the download speed on the 5G network was only 358 Mbps.

Summing up the results of testing, the publication notes that for the majority of Verizon customers the current 4G network is still quite effective. Of course, as the 5G network expands and new base stations are built, the speed of work in new networks will increase, but so far it is far from theoretical.

Research firm Opensignal found that the average download speed on 5G networks for the three major US carriers is only 47 to 58 Mbps. The leader is T-Mobile US, which turned out to be the best in the average uplink speed, but it is only 14 Mbps.

The price to pay for this performance will be power consumption. The CPU consumes more than 250 W under load even without any modifications, and in the absence of restrictions, the figure soars up to 345 W! This is more than the same Threadripper 5000 requires.

Recall that the Core i9-13900K will still have only eight large cores, although there will already be 16 small ones.
