In Australia, an enzyme has been isolated from bacteria that converts air into electricity
Scientists have discovered an enzyme that converts air into electricity, potentially opening up an almost unlimited source of clean energy. This study was conducted at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
The new enzyme consumes hydrogen and generates electricity using the atmosphere as a source of energy. It was obtained from the soil bacterium Mycobacterium smegmatis. Thus, this technique can be used to power implants or wearable electronics.
According to professor of microbiology and study author Chris Greening, scientists previously knew that this was possible, but the mechanism was discovered only now.
“We have known for some time that bacteria can use the remaining hydrogen in the air as an energy source to help them grow and survive, particularly in Antarctic soils, volcanic craters and the deep ocean. But until now we didn’t know how they did it“, he explained.
The enzyme itself was named Huc, and scientists declared its high efficiency compared to other catalysts. It is also stated that it needs very little hydrogen to operate.
“Huc is very efficient. Unlike all other known enzymes and chemical catalysts, it even consumes hydrogen below atmospheric levels—only 0.00005% of the air we breathe.‘ said study lead author Rhys Grinter of the Institute for Biomedical Research at Monash University.
At the same time, Huc is not affected by oxygen, the enzyme can withstand heating up to 80 °C and cooling. Although it is too early to talk about commercial implementation, it seems that there is a prospect for the appearance of such batteries.

The smartphone will receive a large block of the main camera, which will be covered with solid glass. The thickness of the case will be 8.95 mm, weight – 193.1 grams. On the one hand, a lot, but on the other hand, the phone will have a 5500 mAh battery.
Details about the Realme GT Neo5 SE were shared by a well-known informant Digital Chat Station. According to him, the main camera of the smartphone will have a 64-megapixel sensor with a lens with an aperture of F / 1.79. This, of course, is not a record for smartphones in general, but for a mid-range model, the lens is very fast. The insider also provided an image of the Realme GT Neo5 SE in black.
According to preliminary data, the smartphone will receive a Tianma OLED screen with a resolution of 1.5K and a frame rate of 144 Hz, support for 100 W charging. The performance of this model has already shone in AnTuTu – it is at the level of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. In the top version, Realme GT Neo5 SE will have 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of flash memory.
The characteristics of this model will almost exactly repeat the parameters of Redmi Note 12 Turbo, except that the battery capacity of the Redmi model will be smaller – 5000 mAh. The premiere of Realme GT Neo5 SE will take place on April 3, Redmi Note 12 Turbo will be presented a little earlier – already on March 28.
Previously, Digital Chat Station was the first to accurately announce the specifications and release dates of Redmi K50 and Xiaomi 12.
