If I change from Movistar to O2, do I have to change the router?

Published

on

There are many doubts that may come to mind if we are currently Movistar customers and want to switch to O2. The two operators belong to the Telefónica brand and porting today is the most normal thing in the world, although it is usually accompanied by various doubts such as whether it is necessary to change the router if we go from one operator to another. Let’s clear up the unknown.

As we find ourselves in a market in which the large operators offer their services through various brands, such as Telefónica, in these cases things are even simpler, since in general they suffer fewer changes at the equipment level and SIM card among other aspects. O2 is the commercial brand with which Movistar offers users a catalog of rates and services at a lower cost.

The Movistar router is used for O2 fiber

O2 operates both on Movistar’s mobile network and fiber network, in addition to sharing equipment. If you are already a Movistar customer and want to switch to O2, the Home Gateway Unit router or Movistar HGU as it is better known, will also help you if you decide to switch to O2 fiber. Therefore, you do not need a new router nor will they have to do a new installation fiber in your home.

In the event that you currently have ADSL with Movistar, a new installation and router will be necessary for the operation of the O2 fiber. On the other hand, if you are not a Movistar customer and you want to switch from any other operator to O2, the router that O2 will provide you with is the HGU router, that is, the same one used by Movistar.

The usual thing is that fiber optic operators install several pieces of equipment in homes, but with the HGU router it is not necessary, since it has inside integrated the ONT and also the dual band WiFi hotspot (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz).

One of the aspects to take into account is that if we had contracted Movistar+, this service will be terminated and we will have to return the tv decoder and remote, since it is not compatible with O2. We can deliver it to a Movistar store or authorized collection point when we have O2 operational.

It is also not necessary to change the SIM

Another of the frequent doubts in the changes from Movistar to O2 is the need to change the SIM card if instead of contracting the fiber with O2 we want to carry out mobile portability from one operator to another. Once Movistar confirms the portability date, we receive an SMS indicating when the process will take place. When it finishes, we will be informed that the change to O2 has been carried out correctly by means of a electronic portability and without the need to change the SIM.

Therefore, making a change from Movistar to O2, both fiber and mobile, involves fewer steps than if we want to contract any of the services offered by O2 by porting from any other operator.

The new version stands out with a liquid cooling system instead of the passive one of the regular version. Given the release of the new version of the adapter, Nvidia clearly will not be phasing them out after the release of the H100. Recall that new items will be released sometime in the second half of the year, but the company did not specify the timing.

The Nvidia A100 in the PCIe version has 40 or 80 GB of memory and delivers 19.5 TFLOPS of performance.
