Huawei killed EMUI. Instead, now – HarmonyOS

We have already written many times that Huawei will transfer its smartphones from EMUI to HarmonyOS. However, there was no talk that the new OS would completely replace EMUI. However, based on the actions taken by the Chinese company, Huawei will focus entirely on HarmonyOS.

This follows from how Huawei dealt with the official EMUI Weibo account. The fact is that Huawei had two accounts on this social network: one HarmonyOS, the second EMUI. The first one is still empty, but the second one had a lot of messages that related to the proprietary interface and its innovations. But now the EMUI account has been renamed to HarmonyOS. This means that Huawei is no longer interested in developing EMUI, although it was previously assumed that a bundle of EMUI and Android, and HarmonyOS would exist in parallel. True, why the company now needs two identical accounts dedicated to HarmonyOS is not clear. Probably, one of them will be closed over time.

Meanwhile, an original video teaser with the announcement of the custom version of HarmonyOS 2.0 has appeared on the Web. It is a boot animation video – this splash screen will soon appear on all Huawei smartphones that will migrate to HarmonyOS. At the end of the video, the date of the OS announcement is indicated – June 2. On this day, a custom version of the mobile operating system and the first devices with it will finally be presented. And the list of the latter is already there.

So, the first smartphones with HarmonyOS 2.0 out of the box should be: Huawei MatePad Pro 2, Mate X2 4G, Mate 40 Pro 4G, Nova 8 Pro 4G, Watch 3 and a new model of Smart Screen smart TV. But what’s interesting is that smartphones are now, for some reason, credited with … Qualcomm SoCs!

Given that Huawei is cut off from its own Kirin SoCs, this would be a logical move. But in the same way, it is cut off from supplies and any other single-chip platforms – both MediaTek and Qualcomm. However, new rumors are crediting the Mate X2 4G, Mate 40 Pro 4G and Nova 8 Pro 4G now with Snapdragon SoCs. Reportedly, the Mate 40 Pro 4G and Nova 8 Pro 4G will go on sale from July 18th, while the Mate X2 4G will be available from the end of June.
