At the end of 2019, Xiaomi introduced an extremely unusual and interesting in terms of smartphone design – Mi Mix Alpha. Unfortunately, it was decided to cancel the device, but the experience in its design clearly inspired another Chinese company, Huawei. At least, the inspiration was so strong that the manufacturer decided to “spy” on competitors the idea of designing a frameless smartphone to create their own.
For example, Internet enthusiasts discovered the spring patent of Huawei Technologies, which the company filed in March this year with the National Intellectual Property Office of China. Judging by the image of the patented novelty, the device will be one of the most frameless on the market: the screen wraps around one part of the smartphone and occupies about 60-70% of the area of the back panel.
In general, those users who are already familiar with last year’s flagship Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, roughly understand what the new product from Huawei can be capable of. Whether the Chinese TechnoGiant will release the device or decide to leave it as a prototype, as Xiaomi did – is still unknown. But it is gratifying at least that more and more manufacturers are trying to develop unusual (at least in terms of design) phones.
