Huawei claims a billion dollars for the use of its patents by the American operator Verizon

The jury selection process will begin today to resolve a dispute between telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and operator Verizon Communications.

In February 2020, Huawei sued Verizon in two US district courts in Texas, alleging that the company used a dozen Huawei patents without permission in areas such as computer networking, boot security, and video communications.

Last year, Verizon called the lawsuits “nothing more than a PR stunt” and “a covert attack on the company and the entire technology ecosystem” and filed counterclaims against Huawei, alleging that the Chinese company had infringed on Verizon’s patents. Huawei then stated that it “is simply asking Verizon to respect Huawei’s investment in research and development by either paying for the use of the patents or refraining from using them.”

In June 2019, Huawei told Verizon that it must pay licensing fees for the use of more than 230 Huawei patents and requested more than $ 1 billion.

In addition, in 2019, the United States placed Huawei on an economic blacklist due to national security concerns.
