How will Intel fight GeForce and Radeon? Details about GPU DG2 became known

Published

on

The Intel DG1 graphics processor is known to have 96 execution units. This is enough to be the fastest integrated GPU in the top-end mobile Tiger Lake processors, but not enough to compete in the segment of discrete adapters. Actually, this is probably why there is no such card in the desktop segment.

Intel has promised to release its first desktop discrete graphics card this year, and it should be based on the DG2 GPU. It is not known in what configuration, but new data suggests that the GPU itself will contain 512 execution units.

The information is in one of the latest Intel graphics driver files, so it is as accurate as possible. Specifically, there are two identifiers for the new GPU. One will have 128 execution units and the other 512.

We can assume that the former will find application in the mobile segment, and the latter in the desktop one. At the same time, of course, it makes no sense to simply multiply the performance of the DG1 by five times. On the one hand, there will be no linear growth in productivity, on the other hand, the architecture will change. In any case, Intel should have a fairly productive mid-range graphics card.
