How one of the most controversial Tesla innovations of recent times works

Published

on

When Tesla unveiled the new designs for the Model S and Model X in January 2021, one of the most significant changes was the removal of the gear or mode selector previously located on the steering wheel.

Instead of a switch, it is suggested to rely on automation. The company also promised to implement a mode control option using a touch screen.

This innovation has caused a lively controversy on the network, especially since Tesla has not shown control through the touchscreen until now. In an interview with Elon Musk, this innovation was called “crazy”, and Musk replied that he himself tested automatic switching, and he liked it.

We can now admire the implementation of switching between driving modes on the touchscreen. The video was published by one of the owners of Tesla in Taiwan.

Instead of on-screen buttons, one for each mode, the user is asked to press and pull on a small typewriter icon from the left edge of the screen. If you pull up, the car will go forward, and down – the reverse gear will be engaged. The neutral transmission is hidden in the back of the menu. And the parking mode has not yet been shown to us.

Earlier, Musk noted that the touchscreen solution is only a fallback, and the main one is automation.
