How different AlwaysOn Display modes affect the autonomy of the iPhone 14 Pro. There was a video with a long test
The authors of the PhoneBuff channel, who are testing smartphones using a robotic arm, decided to test the AlwaysOn Display mode on the iPhone 14 Pro.
Unlike many similar comparisons, in this case, the smartphone was tested in three modes: without AoD, with AoD without wallpaper, and with AoD with desktop wallpaper displayed.
As you can see, if the smartphone is not touched at all for eight hours, then the screen mode does not really affect autonomy, even when the brightness is set to high. Even after a day of work, in the worst case, the smartphone loses only 20% of the charge. It is worth adding here that in all tests the iPhone was switched to airplane mode, that is, there was actually nothing to consume energy. True, 100% charge after a day is still very impressive, since the smartphone is still not turned off.

Why overpay for smartphones with 5G? On the example of the Samsung Galaxy A14, you can see that we are talking about a huge difference in performance.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G smartphone was introduced at the beginning of the month, but the company is preparing a more affordable version with 4G support. And today we have all the main characteristics of this model and images.
The design of the younger version will be the same, except that instead of brown it will be silver. Many characteristics will also not change, although there will still be differences.
The main thing, of course, is the platform. Instead of the latest Exynos 1330, MediaTek Helio G80 is used. Compared to the Exynos 850 in the Galaxy A13 4G, this is certainly a very significant improvement. For comparison, the Exynos 850 scores about 145,000 points in AnTuTu 9, while the Helio G80 scores 230,000 points. True, the same Exynos 1330 is gaining more than 410,000 points, so the difference between the A14 4G and 5G versions in performance is enormous.
The screen of the Galaxy A14 4G will retain the size of 6.6 inches, Full HD + resolution, but there will be no increased frame rate, like the A14 5G. The battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, the main 50-megapixel camera, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of flash memory will also remain, but charging will be only 10-watt. But the smartphone will receive stereo speakers.
The novelty will be released at the end of March. In Eastern Europe, they will ask for 200 euros for it.

Apple for the first time took second place in the Chinese smartphone market and is actively catching up with the leader

Apple for the first time ranked second in China’s smartphone market.
Counterpoint analysts assessed the Chinese market based on the results of the last quarter and the entire 2022. In the fourth quarter, Apple was the undisputed leader, as well as in the global market, thanks to the new iPhones. The company occupied 23.7% of the market against 17.2% of the nearest competitor. At the same time, Apple’s sales, like almost everyone else’s, sank. Only Huawei stands out here, having managed to increase supplies by 15%.
At the end of the year, Apple overtook Oppo and took second place with an 18% share. The leader represented by Vivo occupies 19.2%, that is, the gap is small. At the same time, Apple’s share has grown from 16% in 2021, while Vivo’s share has fallen from 21.5%. If the trend continues, Apple may well take the lead this year.
It can also be noted that the share of Oppo has also decreased, as well as the share of Xiaomi and Huawei. But Honor grew from 10.4% to 16.7%, that is, very significantly.
Overall, the Chinese market sank 14%, marking the fifth year in a row that smartphone sales have declined in the country.

How much faster is Mac than iPhone? All current Apple A Bionic platforms and all Apple M SoCs were brought together in one big test

The MacWorld resource decided to compare all the current Apple M and Apple A platforms in one big test.
Unfortunately, there are only results in Geekbench, albeit including the GPU. These results do not always correspond to the alignment of forces in real tasks, but at least we have a comparison of two dozen SoCs.
As you can see, the difference in single-threaded performance is very small, even when comparing the 2020 A14 Bionic to the latest M2 Pro/Max. Multi-threaded mode puts everything in its place. The undisputed leader remains the M1 Ultra, as it contains a 20-core CPU. The base M2 Pro with a 10-core CPU performs almost on par with the M1 Max, and all other platforms are already far behind. It is immediately clear at the same time that there is actually quite a big difference between the SoC for the iPhone and for the Mac, although the A16 Bionic is still not catastrophically behind the base M1.
As for the GPU, the difference between the platforms is even greater, which is logical, given the difference in the number of GPU cores. Here, too, the M1 Ultra in the top version has no competitors, although the M2 Max with a 38-core GPU outperforms the base M1 Ultra with a 48-core GPU. It should also be noted that the M1 Max in any configuration is faster than the M2 Pro. The result of the M2 in the iPad Pro also looks interesting, where the GPU is not much slower than in the base M2 Pro.
