DJI today officially announced the Mavic 3 line of drones. There are two models in the series – the Mavic 3 and the Mavic 3 Cine. These are the company’s most advanced drones, using a dual-camera system for video capture for the first time. But, which is logical, the devices have risen in price.

They all have the same, except that the Mavic 3 Cine supports Apple ProRes 422 HQ video recording at 5.1K resolution and up to 50 fps, and also has a built-in (and not removable, at least by the user himself) SSD volume of 1 TB.

The main camera is represented by a very large sensor of the Four Thirds format with a resolution of 20 megapixels for a custom drone with a wide-angle lens with a focal length of 24 mm. The second camera uses a 1/2 ”optical format sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels with an aperture of f / 4.4 and a focal length of 162 mm. It turns out that due to the telephoto lens, the optical zoom is almost 7x, but there is also a 4x digital zoom, as a result, the hybrid zoom is almost 28x. The device’s camera was created in collaboration with Hasselblad, a solution called Hasselblad Natural Color Solution that promises “incredibly natural colors right out of the camera.”

The camera is mounted on a three-axis motorized hinge, due to which image stabilization is provided. As previously reported, the drones use a large-capacity 5000 mAh battery. Due to this, the flight time was increased from 31 minutes in the Mavic 2 to 46 minutes.

Since Apple ProRes 422 HQ, regular Mavic 3 users will have to limit themselves to shooting MPEG-4 AVC / H.264, HEVC / H.265 videos at 200 Mbps. The maximum resolution is 4K at 120 fps.

Together with autonomy, the obstacle avoidance system has been significantly improved. For example, the Mavic 3’s sensors now detect obstacles at a distance of 200 meters, not 20 meters as before. The drones also received support for proprietary technologies Advanced RTH (the abbreviation stands for Return To Home), APAS 5.0 and ActiveTrack 5.0. All of them make drones smarter: they find a shorter route to return home, better track objects (that is, in this mode they can freely change the altitude and direction of flight), etc.

Finally, the Mavic 3 received an improved proprietary communication and control system called OcuSync 3+. The flight range (albeit in ideal conditions) is 15 km, while Full HD video is broadcast to the user’s smartphone or controller at a speed of 60 fps.

The dimensions of the drones in the folded state are 221 x 96.3 x 90.3 mm, in the unfolded state – 347.5 x 283 x 107.7 mm. The Mavic 3 weighs 895 grams, the Mavic 3 Cine 899 grams.

The base Mavic 3 is priced at $ 2,200. It comes with a joystick, a pair of interchangeable blades, a charger. The $ 3,000 Fly More Combo kit includes two extra batteries, a charging hub, four sets of interchangeable propellers, a backpack to carry, and a set of ND filters (ND4, ND8, ND16 and ND32).
