According to the source, Google will return to the next version of its Android operating system a feature that was actively tested and should have appeared in Android 11. This feature is called Columbus.
This designation hides the ability to perform a series of actions by double tapping on the lid of a smartphone – in much the same way as the screen is awakened by tapping on the display. By default, double tapping on the lid was supposed to launch Google Assistant, but this action could be replaced with almost any other action: turn off the alarm, start the camera, stop video playback, mute the sound on an incoming call, etc. In Android 12, Columbus will be trimmed, using this feature, you can, again, call Google Assistant, take a screenshot, pause and resume video playback, open notifications or background applications menu.
To prevent accidental pushes on the lid or other actions from being interpreted as a double tap, the user will first need to register this “gesture”. Also, in the Android settings, Columbus can be completely turned off.
Samsung once again showed everyone how it should be. The company updated Android for the very budget Galaxy A01 from 2019
Samsung continues to show other market players how to update smartphones. This time, the cheapest smartphone of the company, which was released three years ago, received a new version of Android.
We are talking about the Galaxy A01 model, based on Snapdragon 439 and released with Android 10. The novelty, however, did not receive Android 13, but only Android 12 with the One UI 4.1 shell, but for such a smartphone this is still a very significant update. Usually manufacturers first of all stop supporting the most budget devices.
Interestingly, the Galaxy A01 owners in Uzbekistan were the first to receive the update.
Statcounter: Windows 10 market share dropped below 70% for the first time, and Windows 7 still doesn’t give up
The market share of Windows 10 dropped below the 70% mark for the first time, according to the updated Statcounter report for November. Over the past month, the share of Windows 10 has decreased by 1.49%. It was logical to think that the share of Windows 11 would also increase by the same amount, but this is not so.
The share of Windows 11 in November really increased, but only by 0.67% – up to 16.12%. Where did the rest go? Incremental Windows 7! The well-deserved Microsoft OS keeps the fighting spirit and does not give up: in November, its share increased by 0.62% – up to 10.24%.
The shares of Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 are 2.54% and 0.79%, respectively. As for Windows XP, which ended support 8 years ago, it now has 0.4% of the market.
New Antutu record: a new leader reigns in the ranking of the most productive Android smartphones
The popular AnTuTu benchmark team has published its latest monthly rating of the most productive flagship smartphones based on the Android operating system.
In November, there was a revolution in the ranking, which Antutu experts had been waiting for for several months. The latest smartphone Vivo X90 based on the new Dimensity 9200 platform scored almost 1.2 million points, overtaking all the flagships based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 that previously reigned in the ranking. Note that Vivo X90 became the world’s first smartphone on SoC Dimensity 9200.
However, places from second to ten belong to models equipped with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.
Second place went to OnePlus Ace Pro with 1,115,759 points, and third place went to Red Magic 7S Pro. Rounding out the Top 10 are iQoo 10 Pro, Lenovo Legion Y70, iQoo 10, Moto X30 Pro, Xiaomi 12S Pro, Redmi K50 Extreme Edition and Vivo X Fold+
Statistics collected from November 1 to November 30, 2022. The AnTuTu ranking uses averages, not the highest scores. For each smartphone, the results of at least 1000 tests were taken into account – models with fewer tests are not included in the rating.
