Google unveils big OS design overhaul for cheap laptops: Chrome OS celebrates 10th anniversary
Google celebrated the 10th anniversary of Chrome OS by introducing a major overhaul of the OS design with new features and improvements that should make the platform much more usable and usable.
One of the major innovations is the Phone Hub feature. It connects Android smartphones to a laptop with Chrome OS.
When connected, a panel is displayed with access to the main parameters of the smartphone, including connections and information about the battery charge. You can call your lost smartphone from your Chromebook, quickly “share” your internet connection, view recent pages in the Chrome browser on your smartphone, reply to text messages from your Chromebook, and so on.
The Wi-Fi Sync function has become available for a wide range of devices. It allows you to automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network that the user has set up on a smartphone or other devices running Chrome OS.
Another major innovation is support for Nearby Share technology, which allows you to quickly and conveniently exchange data between Chromebooks and Android smartphones. Google promises to launch the feature on Chrome OS in the coming months, making Nearby Share a full-fledged competitor to Apple’s AirDrop.
The new Screen Capture tool is available from the quick settings panel. You can select an exact area on the screen, take screenshots, create videos with a screen recording, which will be saved in the clipboard. The clipboard itself now stores up to five objects copied by the user. Also, controls for media content playback have been added to the quick settings panel.
Sharing files, images, and links between apps and the browser just got easier with the Share button. The Desks feature has also been updated. It adds support for up to eight virtual desktops and adds a new Overview mode to quickly switch between them. After restarting the laptop, the windows on the various desktops will be restored. And these are not all the innovations of Chrome OS, presented today by Google.

Retail sales of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 2022 Ryzen Edition in China will start tomorrow, but the device is already available for pre-order. And it’s better to really hurry up, because pre-ordering the device will cost much less. For example, the base version with a Ryzen 5 6600H CPU, 16GB LPDDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 512GB SSD is now available for $800 and retails for $960. The Ryzen 7 6800H pre-order version is $870, retail is $1,035.
Now all the key parameters of the laptop have become known. So, Mi Notebook Pro 14 2022 Ryzen Edition received an OLED display with a diagonal of 14 inches, a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, a frame rate of 90 Hz and coverage of 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. For a model without a discrete GPU, there is a fairly powerful cooling system – with two fans and two heat pipes.
The interface connectors are represented by three USB-C 3.2 Gen 2. The device configuration also includes a backlit keyboard, a 56 Wh battery, and an all-metal case. The laptop is 14.9 mm thick and weighs 1.4 kg. The package includes a power supply with an output power of 100 W.
Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 14 Ryzen Edition laptop, which will be equipped with Ryzen 6000H series processors and an OLED touch screen.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 14 Ryzen Edition will be the same as the base version. The differences will be in the processor and the presence of the Thunderbolt 4 interface.
The standard Xiaomi Notebook Pro 14 is equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and 512GB of PCIe 4.0 SSD. The laptop received a 14-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2.8K, which supports a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a brightness of 600 cd / m2covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
In addition, the notebook features a pressure-sensitive touchpad that is coated with anti-reflective AG glass. There is also a reverse tactile feedback on touch. Xiaomi Notebook Pro 14 Core Edition starts at $870.
The laptop will be released on August 8th.
The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED foldable laptop is not yet available for purchase. In fact, it hasn’t even been fully shown to the world, except for the Consumer Electronics Show in January. However, it seems that a full-scale announcement may take place in August, where the novelty will be demonstrated in all its glory.
An event is scheduled for August 31 where the company will reveal more information about the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED.

Windows 11 is announced as the OS. The screen will be 17.3-inch with a touch substrate and a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. That is, the screen has an aspect ratio of 4:3. Other specs include brightness up to 500 nits, HDR support, and a 0.2ms response time.
Also noteworthy is a 75 Wh battery with a 65 W power supply, two ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack. There is also a 5 MP camera with support for face recognition, stereo speakers, microphones, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 adapters.
Dimensions are 379 x 288 x 13 mm, weight – 1.8 kg. No cost data yet.
