Google to shut down Daydream VR platform

Google has officially announced that it is phasing out its Daydream virtual reality platform. The company will no longer support the Daydream View helmet and will not optimize the Daydream VR app for Android 11.

The company has promised that it will not remove third-party applications related to Daydream from Google Play, and will also retain the ability to view VR content using the Daydream View headset.

In October 2019, it became known that Google will stop selling Daydream View and expand the list of smartphones that support the platform.

Google released the Daydream View headset in 2016 alongside the first generation of Pixel smartphones. A number of other manufacturers, including Samsung, Motorola and Huawei, have implemented support for the device in their smartphones.
