Google still won’t learn how to make hassle-free smartphones. The Pixel 7 Pro just came out, and it already has its first major screen problem
The curse of Google Pixel does not seem to pass by the new smartphones. The Pixel 7 has just entered the market, and there is already evidence of the first serious problem.
A senior technical editor at XDA-Developers, who has been using the Pixel 7 Pro since the beginning of the week, noticed that the device is using too much power when the screen brightness is at or close to maximum. In general, the Pixel 7 Pro has better battery life than its predecessor, but for some reason, with a strong increase in brightness, the smartphone starts to discharge very quickly. Disproportionately fast relative to the discharge process under other conditions.
To make it clearer, the source gives this example: after three hours of using the phone at medium brightness, the battery sat down by 50%, while in bright sunlight it sat down by 10% in 15 minutes.
It turned out that the problem is not only specifically in this instance of the Pixel 7 Pro. Other members of the XDA team have confirmed that they are seeing the same issues.
Then XDA experts took measurements and found that at a brightness of 600 cd / m2 Pixel 7 Pro screen consumption is 3.5-4W, and at 1000 cd/m2 the indicator rises to 6 watts. For comparison, the Galaxy S22 Ultra under the same conditions, the power consumption is respectively 2 and 4 watts.
The Pixel 6 Pro at maximum brightness also consumes about 4W, but its screen brightness reaches a maximum of 800cd/m2that is, with an increase to 1000 cd / m2 consumption would be much higher. That is, the Pixel 6 Pro apparently had a similar problem, but it did not manifest itself so critically due to the not so high maximum display brightness.
XDA experts have tested all four of their Pixel 7 Pros, and also asked their colleagues to check the devices. All had identical results, which means that this behavior is the norm for Google’s flagship. It is not yet clear whether the company will be able to fix something with software updates.

This is a “folding phone”: the 17-inch LG Gram Fold is presented, expensive

LG Electronics has unveiled its own foldable device with a large flexible screen. It was a laptop called LG Gram Fold.
This is an expensive and powerful model; at first it will be sold only in LG’s native Korean market. For the LG Gram Fold, the manufacturer asks $3,730. However, it is noticeably cheaper than HP’s $5,000 flexible-screen laptop.
In addition, the first 200 customers who order it in Korea will be able to get the laptop for just under $3,000. Of course, it’s unclear whether this device will ever be released internationally, let alone how much it will cost.
Unlike other foldable PCs currently on the market, the LG Gram Fold is powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core processor (i5-1335U), while its HP counterpart uses 12th Gen processors.
Other characteristics include a 17-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels; when folded, the user has access to a 12-inch screen with 1920 x 1280 pixels, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 512 GB solid-state drive, and a 72 Wh battery. There are two USB Type-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 4.
The Gram Fold comes with a Bluetooth keyboard that can be used separately from the laptop. Also included is a 65W charger and a stand case that protects the laptop and supports it when used on a desk.

The battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is better than that of its main Android competitors, but not by much

Among the new iPhone 15, the most autonomous, as we already know, was not the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but it took second place. Now, as Apple’s best solution at the moment, it has been compared with other flagships on the market.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Pixel 7 Pro, OnePlus 11, Xiaomi 13 Ultra took part in the battle against the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max was also taken for greater effect.
The first to drop out of the race was the Pixel 7 Pro, as having the most power-hungry platform. The device worked for 8 hours 13 minutes. OnePlus 11 was the second to give in, but the gap from the outsider turned out to be very large: the Chinese device worked for 9 hours and 48 minutes. The iPhone 14 Pro Max lasted literally a little longer: 9 hours 59 minutes.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra worked for exactly 10 hours, the Samsung flagship worked 27 minutes longer, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max took first place with a result of 10 hours and 31 minutes.
Of course, all autonomy tests are carried out differently, so the results may differ, although not radically. But we can state that, firstly, Apple’s flagship is better again this year, and secondly, its advantage over some competitors is not particularly significant.
