During the pandemic, users began to actively use their smartphones. This is corroborated by a new report from research firm SafeBettingSites that saw a record increase in mobile app downloads last quarter.
According to SafeBettingSites analysts, in the third quarter of 2020, the total volume of downloads of applications from Google Play was 28.3 billion, which is 31% more than in the same period last year. And when compared with the App Store, Google Play outnumbers Apple’s online store in terms of the number of downloads three times. 8.2 billion applications were downloaded from the App Store during the reporting period.
In total, since the beginning of 2020, users have downloaded more than 80.6 billion applications from Google Play. And in the App Store in the same three months, the number of downloads was 26.6 billion.
By the way, Google Play is ahead of the App Store not only in downloads, but also in the number of applications. The Google branded online store currently has more than 2.7 million apps, while only 1.82 million apps are available to Apple device users. The most popular category of apps on Google Play is, of course, games. They account for 13.49% of downloads. Another 9.11% belongs to educational programs and 6.95% to business applications.
