As part of the Search On event, Google announced not only a function that allows you to find a song without knowing its name, just hum or whistle a melody, but also an equally useful update of Maps – they will soon begin to show the congestion of places in real time.
The ability to see information about congestion and rush hours has become one of the most popular features of Google Maps since its launch in 2016, according to a Google blog, and as the coronavirus swept across the world, this information has become an important tool to “help make smarter decisions about where and when to go. ” Analyzing data from March to May, Google researchers found that people were 50% more likely to interact with tools that inform about the occupancy of establishments, stores and other places.
“More and more people were looking at and comparing the data to find the best days and times to visit.”
After the update, Maps will show the workload not only of establishments (gas stations, laundries and pharmacies) or retail outlets (shops, supermarkets, etc.), but also of beaches, parks and other outdoor places. Google continues to add occupancy information for millions of locations and establishments around the world with plans to increase global reach fivefold from June 2020.
At the same time, information about the congestion of places will be displayed on the map when building a route. That is, users will not need to separately search for a particular place to view data on its workload.
The feature will soon be available on Android, iOS and desktop users around the world.
Important information about the health and safety of companies is now the focus of Maps and Search. You can quickly find out what security measures the business is taking, such as requiring customers to wear masks and book in advance before visiting, or regularly checking the temperature of visitors by staff and the like. All the information you need comes directly from companies, and soon Google Maps users will be able to add useful information.
Using “Live Maps”, you can get all the necessary information about the place
Finally, in the coming months, new AR navigation capabilities (Live Maps) will become available to users around the world. For example, if you spot an interesting outlet while walking, you can use Live Maps to find out all the information you need about the outlet – opening hours, occupancy rates, ratings, and health and safety information, if available.
