Google will begin rolling out new camera features for smartphones with Android operating system tomorrow, March 8, 2021. Users of the branded line of Google Pixel smartphones will be the first to join them.

The new features were implemented through the Google Fit app and were announced about a month ago. They allow using smartphone cameras, without additional equipment and sensors, to determine the user’s bullets and respiratory rate.

To measure the pulse, you need to put your finger on the main camera. The pulse is determined by changes in skin color on the finger. To determine the respiration rate, the user needs to get into the frame of the selfie camera. The app will calculate the breathing rate by how the user’s chest rises and falls.

During the announcement, Google emphasized that both functions are not suitable for accurate medical diagnosis, but may be useful for daily use. Google plans to make them available on other Android devices in the future.
