Google followed in Apple’s footsteps six months late. Commissions for Android apps on Google Play halved
Google has decided to follow in Apple’s footsteps. Like the Cupertino giant, Google has slashed transaction fees for Android app developers on the Google Play online app store to 15%. Previously, the commission was 30%.
As with Apple, the rate cut from 30% to 15% only affects the first million dollars a developer earns each year.
The reduced commission will start operating on Google Play from July 1, 2021, six months later than Apple. Google believes that thanks to these changes, 99% of developers worldwide selling digital goods and services on Google Play will see a 50% reduction in commissions.
In November 2020, Apple officially announced that all developers who earned less than $ 1 million a year from selling apps and in-app purchases in the App Store will pay Apple a 15% commission instead of the standard 30%. The new tariffs began to operate shortly before the beginning of 2021.
