Google App: Bug forced opening websites in default browser

Published

on

The official Google app started the year with a somewhat unusual problem. As the website points out 9to5 Google, the latest test version of the software introduced a new bug to users, resulting in the forced redirection of open pages to the default browser of the Android device used.

Apparently, the problem was a flaw in the feature called “Custom Chrome Tabs” (CCT), in free translation into Portuguese, responsible for ensuring navigation on web pages without leaving the application in which they are implemented. The tool also has a utility bar and offers a very responsive experience for Internet users, facilitating the flow of daily use.

The problem, present in beta versions 13.0 and 13.1, could be easily circumvented through an option to disable the tool in the app’s settings — however, this too has become inoperative with the latest updates. In this context, users were left without many alternatives, other than using the search engine in another browser of choice or facing the “broken” rhythm of search.

The source suggests that the cause of the problem is related to testing a new browser for Google Search, which would have a workaround for Chrome’s Custom Tabs. After months of evaluation, the project was shut down due to persistent flaws in its approach.

Fortunately, the problem was solved remotely by Google this Wednesday (12), through an update on its servers implemented shortly after the disclosure of the case.

This is what the OnePlus 11 Pro could look like. With a single camera, but swivel

Published

At the end of 2020, OnePlus Technology filed a patent application with the Chinese Patent Office titled “Camera module and electronic equipment”. Last June, the application was approved and submitted to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). After that, images of the device were published, and the source based them on renders of a possible OnePlus smartphone.

As you can see, the main camera is represented by only one module – with one sensor and one lens. Given the available space, we can assume that the sensor in such a smartphone will be very large. Possibly 1 inch optical format. This, in particular, is used in Sharp Aquos R6, and this smartphone also has only one sensor (3D ToF camera module does not count).

However, the peculiarity of the camera of the promising OnePlus model is not in the sensor, but in the lens: can it rotate 180? with a magnetic drive. The purpose of rotation is to make shooting easier for the user. For example, to switch to portrait mode, you will not need to twist the smartphone in your hands – the lens itself will turn. Also, with such a lens it will be easier to shoot panoramas, and the manufacturer will offer a special “rotary” video recording mode. Finally, the magnetic drive will make the image stabilization system even more effective.

So far, nothing indicates that OnePlus is preparing a mass-produced smartphone with such a camera, but the source does not exclude that it may already appear in the OnePlus 11 Pro. Actually, renderings were made with the expectation of showing a possible flagship with such a camera.

OnePlus 10 Pro received a second-generation Hasselblad camera, but from a technical point of view, it is not much different from the OnePlus 9 Pro camera. Therefore, the source’s desire to attribute a radically new camera to OnePlus 11 Pro is understandable, but whether the OnePlus 2023 flagship will really look like this is still a question.

the anxiety for The Batman, the new Batman movie, is getting bigger. Bearing this hype in mind, Warner Bros. and DC Universe have released two new posters for the feature film. The aim is to give fans another taste of the movie that opens in theaters in March.

The announcement was made by the Twitter account of Warner Bros. Pictures Brasil and also by Twitter Movies, each with two different posts. Each profile on the social network chose to write different content in the poster posting.

The poster showing only Batman’s face, on the Warner Brasil account, has the message: “Vengeance is behind the mask”.

On the worldwide Twitter Movies account, they decided to put an emphasis on the new protagonist and posted: “He’s not a Batman, he’s THE BATMAN”.

In the second post, made to publicize the poster in which Batman and Catwoman appeared, Warner Bros. Brasil used the following message: “O Morcego e a Gata – sounds cool”.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and features actor Robert Pattinson in the role of billionaire Bruce Wayne, who is also the Batman. According to the actor and the director, there is something different about the character.

“From the first conversation I had with Matt about this, I knew there was something radically different from anything we’ve seen in the Batman movies before,” commented the actor, who went on to describe the feeling behind the hero’s actions.

“From the beginning, there’s a desperation in him. He’s really working that anger. All the fights feel very personal. He wants to inflict his kind of justice. He’s just compelled to do it. There’s no other option,” Pattinson concluded.

Some other names in the cast are actress Zoë Kravitz, playing Selina/Catwoman, and actors Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred the butler and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon.

Actress Zoë Kravitz also commented on the connection between Catwoman and Batman. “Catwoman really wants to fight for those who don’t have someone else to fight for them. And that’s where Batman and her really connect,” Kravitz explained.

The Batman opens in theaters on March 3, 2022.

Canadian company Frontiers North Adventures wants to replace northern tourism vehicles with electric vehicles

Published

on

Every year, thousands of ecotourists come to the Canadian village of Churchill on the shores of the Arctic Ocean for the chance to see polar bears. Frontiers North Adventures, a local travel company, uses 40-seat diesel-powered Tundra Buggy buses to transport tourists across the ice.

It recently announced plans to replace all twelve custom cars with zero-emission electric vehicles.

Unlike companies that can turn to the automaker in such cases, Frontiers North Adventures had to do most of the engineering for the electric version of the Tundra Buggy in-house.

“The biggest problem we had with the first vehicle is that this has never been done before. We were working with donated batteries so we had to build our own systems and we had to do it all from scratch… it took a very long time because we had to figure everything out,” explains Jessica Burtnick, Manager of Frontiers North Adventures for Marketing and Communications. – We hope to redo the second [Tundra Buggy] it will be a little easier… and when we get to the 12th, we will reach perfection.”

The company expects the transition to electricity to be a boon for the environment, reducing CO2 emissions by 3,600 tonnes over the next 25 years and helping to insulate the business from fuel price fluctuations. In addition, cars will become much quieter.

Funding for the project came from dedicated Manitoba funds and in-kind support and technical services were provided by Red River Polytechnic College’s Transportation Technology and Energy Center. Batteries for the car were donated by electric bus manufacturer New Flyer from Winnipeg.
