Google and Microsoft have announced a joint initiative called # Compat2021 to improve browser compatibility.

The # Compat2021 group includes several other members of the web community, but Google and Microsoft did not specify which ones. Only Igalia is mentioned, a team known for their commitment to the open source community.

The main focus of # Compat2021 is to eliminate incompatibilities between the five largest browsers. Incompatibility makes it difficult to create sites that work seamlessly in any browser and look the same. Google and Microsoft themselves will be focusing on the Chromium platform that underpins Chrome and Edge.

To begin with, the working group identified the key challenges for a universal browser experience. The five areas that developers will primarily focus on are CSS Flexbox, CSS Grid, CSS position: sticky, CSS aspect-ratio property, and CSS Transforms.

So, because of CSS Flexbox, elements on sites stretch in different ways in different browsers, it is planned to eliminate this and bring them to one correct appearance. Improvements to CSS Grid will allow for animated grid layouts on Chromium and WebKit engines, while this feature is currently only supported in Gecko. CSS position: sticky will fix the placement of objects on the site the same in all browsers, and so on.

The test results of two AMD Epyc server processors of the Genoa generation with 96 cores each have appeared on the Web. According to available data, this is either Epyc 9664 or Epyc 9654.

The CPU was tested in Cinebench R23, and the catch is that this software recognizes a maximum of 256 threads. Two 96-core processors have 384 threads thanks to SMT support. That is, the result obtained in the benchmark reflects only two thirds of the capabilities of the tested pair of CPUs.

Despite this, the processors scored over 110,000 points in multi-threaded mode. In a single thread, the result was 1302 points.

For comparison, one 64-core Threadripper 5995WX gains about the same amount (even a little more), but overclocked to 5.15 GHz using liquid nitrogen. The comparison with the direct competitor Xeon Platinum 8480+ is more interesting. A system with two of these 56-core processors scores only about 68,500 points. True, the source says that there were problems in the operation of these CPUs, so serial processors may show slightly better results. However, in any case, the gap is huge, because even two current-generation 64-core Epyc 7763 score 98,000 points. As a result, it is not yet clear whether the new Intel server processors will be able to somehow withstand the monsters of AMD. In addition, judging by the latest data, Sapphire Rapids-SP will eventually be delayed even more and will not be released until next year.

According to this document, we are waiting for 14 CPUs with the number of cores from four to 24, while there will be only one quad-core – Core i3-13100. The next model (Core i5-13400) will have 10 cores, and it will also be the only one, because the Core i5-13500 and a number of older CPUs will already offer 14 cores.

Only the Core i9s will get the new die type, as only they will have a full configuration with eight large and 16 small cores. By the way, the Core i9-13900KS is not in the table, so it really may not be, especially if we recall the recent data on the 350-watt power limit for older Cores.
