Google adds new features to Pixel: battery optimization, new setting in Google Photos, Adaptive Sound, and more

Google has prepared several new features for Pixel smartphone owners. The December update brings both brand new features and expands the range of features available in the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A to older devices (Pixel 3 and newer).

Thus, owners of older Pixel models will have access to the Hold for Me feature (Google Assistant waits for a real person to answer the call), Extreme Battery Saver mode (“runs only the essentials so that your battery lasts as long as possible”) and the ability to split screen when making calls using Duo.

Google is rolling out new features for Pixel smartphones: battery optimization, new setting in Google Photos, Adaptive Sound, and more.

Some smartphone models will also feature Adaptive Charging. It “helps preserve battery health over time by dynamically controlling how fast your Pixel charges” when plugged in overnight. Adaptive Charging will be available for Pixels 4 and newer.

The first 5G-enabled devices, namely the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G, will now default to 4G for simple tasks such as web browsing and texting. But they will use the 5G connection to stream movies or watch large files. Google notes that this Adaptive Connectivity is not available with all carriers and not all applications. If necessary, it will be possible to turn it off and constantly use 5G communication (when there is a signal). Google also says GPS navigation accuracy on the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G has improved with this update.

Pixel smartphone owners will also find new editing suggestions on Google Photos. In particular, the Dynamic preset will appear, which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, and sky suggestions to enhance sunset and sunrise rendering. This option is currently exclusive to the Pixel series.

Google has added new features to the Pixel: battery optimization, a new setting in Google Photos, Adaptive Sound, and more.

For Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A owners, Adaptive Sound will be available. She “uses the microphone to judge the acoustics near you, and then adjusts the sound equalizer settings for specific applications.” Thus, the smartphone in the bathroom will adjust the sound differently than in the bedroom. Google notes that “all microphone data” recorded to optimize the speaker is deleted shortly after recording. The company also states that this feature always works locally on the user’s device and does not send audio to cloud services.

Google is rolling out new features for Pixel smartphones: battery optimization, new setting in Google Photos, Adaptive Sound, and more.

Finally, the update brings more options for personalizing the home screen on Pixel smartphones. Users will be able to choose “new icons, grid views and application shapes.”
