Globally, the cost of smartphones has increased by 10%

2020 turned out to be simply terrible for many spheres of life and activity, including the IT industry and the mobile market.

Counterpoint has studied the state of affairs in the smartphone market, finding that the average cost of phones in the world has increased by about 10%.

The study compared the indicators of the second quarter of 2020 and the second quarter of 2019. The only region where the average selling price of a smartphone fell by 5% was Latin America.

Despite the general drop, the premium smartphone segment has not been hit hard. Deliveries of such devices decreased by only 8% compared to the previous year.

The company gained the most during the quarantine period Apple, which only increased iPhone shipments by 3%. The proliferation of 5G devices also influenced the average selling price. In addition, during the pandemic, the demand for devices for play and work has increased, which has forced users to turn to premium smartphones.

At the same time, budget devices were bought reluctantly due to the closure of offline stores and the decrease in the purchasing power of people with low and middle income.
