General Motors has said it will use its own infotainment system in new electric vehicles that will be better than Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition, having its own system will allow General Motors to collect and analyze data from customers and sell service subscriptions to them, potentially opening up a new source of income.

General Motors is ditching Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but Ford is taking a very different stance

Asked by The Wall Street Journal what he thinks of GM’s decision, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the company will not follow in the footsteps of General Motors and is not going to abandon Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. He also doesn’t think that “there’s a lot of money to be made from in-car content.”

Farley then added that 70% of Ford customers in the US are Apple customers: “Why would we say good luck to Apple users? It doesn’t sound like customer centricity. Apple does a really good job, so our philosophy is different. Our philosophy is that we will create the best Android and CarPlay experience you can imagine. We will add to that some really good customization options for customers so they can get what they want as well as great performance and security.”

Interestingly, Apple Music Classical is still not available on Mac, and there is no optimized version for iPad. In addition, the service cannot be used through CarPlay.

Recall that Apple Music‌ Classical provides access to more than five million songs and hundreds of playlists. At the same time, unlike the usual Apple Music application, it is possible to search by composer, work, conductor, catalog number, and so on.

This is not about the next beta version, but about the final one. For some (older) models, it will be based on Android 12, and for newer models, it will be based on Android 13. As noted, Xiaomi delayed the release of MIUI 14 for all these models because there were many bugs in previous versions. Now, one should think, all errors and shortcomings have been eliminated, and everything is ready for release.
