The GeForce RTX 4090 proved to be twice as energy efficient as its predecessor and consumes only about 350 watts in games on average. Our colleagues at Computerbase decided to see what would happen if we lowered the card’s power limit from the original 450W to 350W or even 300W.
As it turned out, often this does not have a particularly strong effect on performance. Since the average real consumption of the adapter in games is just about 350 W, lowering the power limit to this value on average leads to a decrease in performance by only 3%. In the worst case, the indicator drops by 8%, but this is only in one game.
Lowering the power limit to 300W results in a larger drop, but it’s still only 9%. Considering the card’s incredible out-of-the-box performance, it’s entirely possible to sacrifice that 9% to reduce power consumption by about a third. True, in at least one game, the authors recorded a drop of 17%, which is quite a lot.
It would also be interesting to compare the RTX 4090 and RTX 3090 (or 3090 Ti) at the same GPU frequencies, but so far no one has conducted such tests.
As a reminder, today we also learned that the RTX 4090 is suitable for gaming even at 8K resolution, and that this is the first gaming graphics card to achieve 100 TFLOPS performance.

The first laptop based on the GeForce RTX 40 line of graphics cards has appeared on the Web. The model is called the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16.
Judging by the photo, the new M16 looks little different from its predecessor. In particular, the same thin frames have been preserved, which not every gaming laptop can boast of. For the current model, Asus is talking about 94% display space.
The current ROG Zephyrus M16 is equipped with a Core i9-12900H CPU and offers graphics cards from RTX 3050 Ti to RTX 3080 Ti. We can expect that the new model will have approximately the same configuration, but with new CPU and GPU.
Recall that the announcement of the mobile GeForce RTX 40, as well as the Raptor Lake mobile processors, is expected at CES 2023. A laptop will probably also be presented there.
Will the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti stay for at least another year? Nvidia is ending production of almost all mid-range graphics cards.

We are talking about the GeForce RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2060, GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1660 cards. The source does not have any details, but we already know that there is an RTX 3050 to replace the RTX 2060/2060 Super, but the GTX 1660 cards there are simply no replacements. The source doesn’t mention the GTX 1660 Ti, though, so it’s possible Nvidia is keeping this card alone to close the hole in the sub-$300 segment.
In particular, in Europe now for the GTX 1660/1660 Super/1660 Ti they are asking for about the same money: from about 230-240 euros. At the same time, the cheapest RTX 3050 now costs 300 euros. No more affordable cards will appear in the RTX 30 line, and it’s not worth waiting for cheap RTX 40 cards in the foreseeable future, because even the RTX 4060 is supposedly released only next summer.
For comparison, AMD has a modern Radeon RX 6600 in the sub-$300/Euro segment, which is much more powerful than any GTX 1660, and along with the RTX 3050.
When the new Intel processor is really better than its predecessor. Core i7-1370P parameters appeared
Intel has not yet introduced most of the Raptor Lake family, including mobile CPUs. But today the Core i7-1370P lit up on the Web.
Geekbench indicates that this is a 14-core processor with support for 20 threads, that is, we are talking about six large cores and eight small ones. It is worth noting here that this is a configuration identical to the Core i7-1280P, but the Core i7-1270P has 14 cores. That is, the new Intel CPU will be better than its predecessor, including in terms of the number of cores.
In addition, the frequencies will become higher. The maximum frequency will reach 5 GHz versus 4.8 GHz for the models of the Alder Lake line mentioned above. But the base frequency relative to the Core i7-1280P will increase by 100 MHz, up to 1.9 GHz, but relative to the Core i7-1270P it will decrease by 300 MHz.
