Gartner predicts global IT spending to grow by 8.6% in 2021

Experts from the analytical company Gartner have prepared a forecast of world spending on information technology (IT) in the current year. They expect $ 4.2 trillion to be spent on IT over the year. This is 8.6% more compared to 2020.

Analysts admit that the optimistic outlook sounds as many companies are still experiencing shrinking revenues. At the same time, IT costs are growing in anticipation of the growth of economic indicators. Business leaders see a direct link between technology spending and business return.

Telecommunications services remain the largest expense item, but growth in this segment is expected by only 3.5% – from 1.396 to 1.445 trillion dollars. It is worth recalling that last year, the cost of telecommunications services decreased by 1.4%. In second place are IT services. In this segment, expenses are expected to grow by 9.8% – from 1.071 to 1.177 trillion dollars. Last year, spending on IT services grew by 1.7%.

This is followed by the costs of “devices”. If last year they decreased by 1.5%, then this year it is expected to grow by 13.9%, from 696.99 to 793.97 billion dollars. Corporate spending will grow 13.2% to $ 599 billion, while data center system spending will grow 7.4% to $ 192 billion.
