Garmin: Yoga and Pilates were trending among exercises in 2021

The maker of wearables, accessories and sports equipment Garmin has released the 2021 edition of the Garmin Connect Fitness, a report that shows what was trending among users of the brand’s products and services.

According to the company, the relaxation of measures against covid-19 and the advance of vaccines made the public practice more physical activities on the streets – so much so that walking (increase of 37.13%), running (11.58% ) and pedaling (49.55) were more recorded overall.

The indoor activities that skyrocketed the most in the year were yoga and Pilates, with growth of 45.55% and 108.30%, respectively. Breathing exercises, which are present on some Garmin watches and help to relax or focus, also skyrocketed in 2021 — and South America was the region that most practiced these exercises.

Even swimming (up 22.48%) and winter sports (up 39.16%) were recorded more on devices.

None of the exercises in the report showed a decline, but there is a clear trend in the study: indoor activities grew more in volume than outdoor activities.

According to the brand, this indicates that many people have definitively adopted the routine of physical activities that they started at the beginning of the pandemic or have already returned to activities such as weight training and group classes.

The full study can be seen on the Garmin website (in English).

on

Instagram has unveiled a new subscription-based service that will allow its users (first in the US) to follow a small number of content creators and influencers on the platform.

The Facebook-owned brand announced that it began testing a new subscription model earlier this week. New authors will be included in this program in the coming weeks. Those who wish will be able to pay a monthly fee for access to content from famous people. The subscription will include exclusive stories and other content. Back in November 2021, the first information appeared that the company was preparing a paid subscription, which has now become official.

Such subscribers will also receive a purple badge next to their username, which signals their status to the content creator. Prices range from $0.99 to $99.99 and are free for content creators to choose from. Instagram’s paid subscription makes the service similar to another popular site called OnlyFans.

According to project lead Ashley Yuki, Instagram will not cut content creator subscription revenue. True, this will only be valid “at least until 2023.” Currently, 10 people are participating in the preliminary testing, including basketball player Sedona Prince, Olympian Jordan Chiles and astrologer Aliza Kelly.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg added, “I’m excited to continue building tools for content creators to make money from their creative work. More authors will get these tools soon.”

International Red Cross accused cyberattack that compromised data of more than half a million people

Published

on

A contractor providing services to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was the victim of a cyber attack that has compromised the personal data of more than 515,000 “highly vulnerable people”.

This hack has forced the Red Cross to suspend computer systems that support a program that reunites families separated by conflict, migration or disaster.

Details of the hacking of the Red Cross

Data on the 515,000 people involved in this attack comes from at least 60 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies around the world. Together with those local authorities, the ICRC jointly executes a program called “Restoring family ties”, which aims to reunite family members separated by conflict, disaster or migration.

The ICRC has no immediate indication as to who carried out this cyberattack, which targeted an external company in Switzerland, contracted by the ICRC to store data. There is no report yet that the compromised information has been leaked or shared publicly. “While we don’t know who is responsible for this attack, or why they carried it out, we have this appeal to make to them.”ICRC Director General Robert Mardini said in a release of the institution.

“His actions could potentially cause even more harm and pain to those who have already endured untold suffering. The real people, the real families behind the information you now have are among the least powerful in the world. Please do the right thing. Do not share, sell, leak or otherwise use this data».

Although no perpetrators have been identified yet, the Red Cross stressed that its “most pressing concern” is the possibility that compromised data was leaked. There is no indication that has happened yet, according to the Red Cross. “An attack on missing persons data makes the anguish and suffering of families even more difficult to bear. We are all shocked and perplexed that this humanitarian information is being attacked and compromised.”Mardini noted. “This cyber attack puts vulnerable people at greater risk, those who already need humanitarian services”, he added.

The ICRC is working to investigate the potential scope of this attack and to safeguard its information against another similar attack. At the moment, the affected family reunification program remains suspended. Before the attack, around a dozen families separated in the middle of a conflict zone managed to reunite, thanks to the action of the branches of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Yesterday official sales of the budget 3D-card Radeon RX 6500 XT started. Recall that it was presented at CES 2022: with an official price of $ 200, it became the most affordable representative of the family. In China, the start of sales of the Radeon RX 6500 XT was accompanied by a real boom: according to a source, video cards were sold out in seconds.

In China, the Radeon RX 6500 XT sold out in seconds, the price of the video card is predicted to rise

This is not surprising, because the cost of the Radeon RX 6500 XT in this country, although it turned out to be higher than the official one, is not much higher: the price of the most affordable models is $250, the most expensive is $305. But given the hype, the source believes that the Radeon RX 6500 XT will rise in price more in the future.

Interestingly, if the Radeon RX 6500 XT itself can no longer be bought in China, then ready-made computers with it are on sale quite widely. Perhaps the volume of video cards for PC builders turned out to be more than the volume intended for retail sale.
