Galax Warns That Using Solid State Drives For Cryptocurrency Mining Will Void Their Warranty
Knowing how quickly mining some cryptocurrencies can deplete SSDs, Galax posted a warning on its Chinese website that it reserves the right to deny warranty service to SSDs used for mining.
The manufacturer explains that the process of mining cryptocurrencies such as Chia involves significantly more write operations than usual. This leads to accelerated wear of memory cells and can slow down the drive and even permanently damage it.
The source reminds that the Chia cryptocurrency is gaining popularity in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in China. There are no transactions with it yet, so the unit cost is unknown. However, those hungry for easy money are buying up the storage devices necessary for production, which has already resulted in an explosive rise in prices.
Several Chinese manufacturers have announced solid state drives and storage devices for mining, which are currently in production and are expected to hit the market soon. The warranty period for such devices will be substantially shorter than usual. You don’t need to be a big connoisseur of human nature to assume that these will be ordinary drives with stickers, on which an area of application will be declared that will attract potential buyers.

Interestingly, he mentioned this in a video demonstrating the work of the Intel Sapphire Rapids WS platform, the processors of which are currently competing with the Threadripper 5000, but soon they will have to compete with the Threadripper 7000.
Threadripper 7000 will switch to a new socket and a new Zen 4 architecture. This will bring them support for DDR5 memory, probably PCIe 5.0 interface. In addition, the top-end Threadripper 7000s are expected to be 96-core, just like their sister Epyc Genoa.

It is possible that dual-fan models will also appear in the JetStream series, but already based on the GeForce RTX 4070 or GeForce RTX 4060. The cost of new products has not yet been announced.
