Freebie is over: Google free video conferencing is no longer unlimited

Google has finally stopped its attraction of unheard of generosity – unlimited group calls via Google Meet are now available only to paid members.

Recall that free use of the Google Meet video conferencing service has long been offered without restrictions. Google originally planned to implement a 60 minute video conferencing limit for the free version of Google Meet starting September 30, 2020. However, in the fall, the company announced the extension of free unlimited access until March 31, 2021. In the spring, Google again postponed the implementation of the limits – until June 30, 2021. However, on July 30, the restrictions did not take effect. Free “unlimited” was kept for users of Gmail accounts.

However, it all ends someday and now free Gmail users have an important limitation – “calls with three or more participants” are limited to 60 minutes. When such a video conference is in progress, its participants will receive a notification in 55 minutes about the imminent separation. After that, you can start the call again or switch to a paid plan (this is only required by the creator of the video meeting).

At the same time, one-to-one calls can last up to 24 hours on free and corporate accounts.
