Fossil is one of the largest players in the smartwatch market, although it sells products under many fashion brands, so not everyone has heard of it.
In the segment of smartwatches with Wear OS, Fossil is probably the leader at all, because most have abandoned this direction, and it continues to release new models to the market with enviable consistency.
For example, today she announced a model with the laconic name Gen 5E. Unfortunately, this is not a completely new model, but an update to Gen 5. This means that the outdated Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC remains in place, although there is already a newer and more modern Snapdragon Wear 4100.
Compared to the Gen 5, the new model has barely changed in appearance. But now there is a 42mm version, which, interestingly, has the same screen (OLED with a diagonal of 1.19 inches) as the 44mm one. This was achieved by reducing the thickness of the bezel.
Gen 5E is cheaper than Gen 5 ($ 250 versus $ 295), but the novelty has lost GPS, it has 4 GB of flash memory versus 8 GB, it also does not have an ambient light sensor, altimeter and compass.
Everything else is in place. Including all functions familiar to smartwatches, since everything here is tied to the operating system. Unfortunately, due to the old platform and, as a result, mediocre autonomy (the manufacturer claims 24 hours), it is hardly worth recommending Gen 5E for purchase now.
