A startup Hodak Science has been launched in the United States, where they are developing a brain-computer interface. At the same time, the Hodak Science version does not require implants. Its creator is the former president of Neuralink, Max Hodak.
For work, it is proposed to use not electronics, but photonics; for manipulations with the brain, it is proposed to use light. The startup has already received funding of $160 million. At the moment, the company has already developed the Science Eye prosthesis, which is being tested on rabbits, and will move to human trials in the coming years. It should help with the treatment of certain diseases of the central and peripheral vision.
Hodak Science also wants to create an operating system that will output data directly to the retina, which will allow you to show hints, instructions, and so on. So far, it has not been reported when it is worth waiting for ready-made solutions, but the operation itself has already been worked out. True, this requires stimulating the cells of the optic nerve, for this they are injected with an artificial protein.
At the same time, Hodak remains a shareholder of Neuralink, as well as a holder of securities in a competing startup, Synchron. These companies are developing implantable chips.

Bloomberg: trying to slow down the fall in sales, Apple announced record discounts on Mac for wholesale buyers
According to Bloomberg, Apple is trying to boost Mac sales with a promotional offer for small businesses that buy computers in bulk. This should help deal with the slowdown in holiday quarter sales.
The company is offering up to 10% off its 14-inch and 16-inch Apple M1 SoC MacBook Pros, company representatives and Apple retailers said. Businesses purchasing 5 to 24 MacBook Pros in any edition will receive an 8% discount, and those purchasing 25 units in bulk will receive a 10% discount. The offer is valid until December 24th. This exceeds the typical discount for small and medium businesses.
Last month, the company warned that growth in its holiday quarter would be slower than in the previous period due to a “substantial” decline in Mac revenue. Mac computers brought in more than $11.5 billion, or almost 13% of Apple’s total revenue, in the company’s financial quarter ended Sept. 24. It was the best sales period in the history of this product line.
In its marketing materials, Apple described the new promotion as a “special Mac campaign.” Sales staff have recently been briefed on the promotion and have begun contacting companies Apple has previously done business with to gauge interest. Small business representatives said they rarely receive calls from Apple with offers of promotions. Apple declined to comment.
In addition to trying to boost MacBook Pro sales, Apple may be trying to clear some inventory ahead of new models. Updated MacBook Pros based on the Apple M2 Pro and M2 Max SoCs are expected to launch in early 2023.
