Ford fights resellers and will punish dealers who sell cars to them

Published

Ford has confirmed to Carscoops that it has a policy of penalizing dealers who knowingly sell specialty vehicles such as the Bronco, Bronco Sport Heritage, Raptor and Shelby GT350/500 to resellers. The move is to ensure that customers who want to own a Ford vehicle will be able to buy directly from the dealer, with no markups.

The story began when one potential Bronco Raptor buyer in Texas was surprised when he was told of a $20,000 markup on the car.

Dealers are independent franchises and enter into a final contract with the buyer. Ford’s policy is to prevent the illegal sale of new vehicles to customers who are dealers, resellers or exporters of vehicles and helps protect customers who wish to legally purchase a vehicle for their own use.

Ford’s policies help protect the company’s image, while mark-ups and any payment in excess of the recommended retail price is detrimental to brand loyalty.

Ford did not elaborate on how they identify resellers, whether the company has a system in place to track transactions for special vehicles, or what actions, if any, have been taken in the past when similar schemes are discovered.

In China, the Land Cruiser Prado 250 turned out to be about 10 thousand dollars more expensive than in the USA. Moreover, the Toyota SUV turned out to be more expensive than both the Tank 700 Hi4-T and BYD Leopard 5, although it is inferior to them in innovation, equipment and power. But the Chinese vote for the Japanese brand with their wallets. By the way, ordering a car is confirmed by a deposit of 5,000 yuan—that’s $695.

Let us remind you that the full premiere of the Land Cruiser Prado 250 in China will take place at the Beijing Motor Show on April 25, and retail prices will be announced at the same time.
