Ford F-150 Lightning tested for real range when towing a seven-meter motorhome

Ford’s latest F-150 Lightning electric pickup has passed a real-world towing test with an Airstream motorhome. The test confirmed that in such conditions, an electric car can travel half the distance without recharging.

The owner of the F-150 Lightning Platinum from Michigan posted on the F-150 Lightning forum a test report on towing a seven-meter trailer weighing 2721 kg. The test was carried out on a flat stretch of road.

When you connect a trailer and enter its dimensions and weight, the F-150 Lightning’s computer system automatically adjusts the range. The owner of the car connected the trailer when the range was 136 km. After connecting the computer showed a power reserve of 86 km. The calculation turned out to be quite accurate, as he drove 48 km, and the remaining range showed 37 km.

Today I was able to tow the Airstream about 30 miles and figure out how the Lightning works with a trailer. As a result, it turned out 1.28 km per 1 kWh of capacity versus 2.4-2.9 km per kWh without a trailer. It turns out that the range with a trailer drops by about 50%.

In addition to energy consumption, the owner was pleased with the result. Braking was fast and regenerative braking was applied automatically, though single-pedal driving in tow mode is not possible.

Microsoft Edge browser updated for streamers and gamers

Microsoft continues to actively promote the Xbox Cloud Gaming service and other gaming features. At the same time, developers add them to the proprietary Edge browser. Back in November last year, it became known about Clarity Boost technology, which improves image clarity when streaming games on Windows 10 and 11. Now, as expected, it will appear in the Edge browser.

In addition, Microsoft advertises the Efficiency Mode in the browser, which should minimize the load on the system and give maximum resources to games.

And on the home page of the updated version of the browser, free casual games are available – Microsoft Jewel, Microsoft Edge Surf, Microsoft Majong and others. It also displays news on gaming topics, live streams, new games and the ability to access the Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog.

Note that this is not the first “gaming” browser on the PC. Previously, Opera Software released the Opera GX browser with aggressive visual design, support for free casual games, related news and so on.

And earlier in Microsoft Edge added a calculator, a unit converter and a utility to check the speed of the Internet.

The long-awaited Always-On Display in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will allow you to display widgets from the lock screen

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the Always-On Display on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models will allow new widgets created for the lock screen to be displayed on the screen.

This means that not only the clock can be displayed on the off screen, but also the calendar, unread messages, weather forecast, stock quotes, and so on. All that is in the form of widgets for the lock screen. How it will be possible to interact with such data in Always-On Display mode is still unknown.

The older models of the new generation, we recall, are credited with 120 Hz screens that are capable of reducing the frame rate to 1 Hz. This will allow smartphones to consume battery power very economically in Always-On Display mode.

Apple laptops, thanks to Apple Silicon processors, stand out for their incredible autonomy. The latest MacBook Pro 13 based on the Apple M2 SoC is no exception.

More than 16 hours of continuous work - this is the autonomy of the new MacBook Pro 13 on M2

The Verge journalist decided to check how long the new MacBook Pro will last in the mode of a full-fledged working system, when there is no goal to squeeze the maximum autonomy out of the PC.

The test started at 20:00. The author launched a browser with a dozen tabs, Spotify and set the brightness to 50%. Later on, the load on the PC increased as additional applications were launched, including Google Docs, After Effects, Instagram, Swift Playgrounds 4 game, PugetBench, Lightroom and so on. It is also worth noting that from 2:13 to 8:15, while the author was sleeping, YouTube was running on the laptop.

As a result, around 12:30 the laptop still turned off. He worked 16 hours and 30 minutes. The load at the same time quite corresponded to some conditionally average. If limited, for example, to the browser and typing, the laptop will probably last even longer.
