Flat design, slim bezels and LiDAR: Apple has introduced the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

by Henry Brown

In addition to the “popular” iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12, Apple has traditionally introduced the flagship models at a higher price – iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. In addition to returning to the familiar design with flat sides in the style of the iPhone 4, smartphones now offer a LiDAR scanner, as in the iPad Pro, thinner bezels around the screen and fresh blue. However, it is not only these innovations that make the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max different from their predecessors. There are some more interesting details. About everything in order.

iPhone 12 Pro

First of all, the iPhone 12 Pro comes with an increased diagonal – instead of 5.8 inches, now there are 6.1 inches. The Super Retina XDR display is made of OLED technology and has a resolution of 2688 × 1242 pixels. Protective glass is supplemented with a ceramic substrate Ceramic Shield Front Cover to increase hardness and resistance to damage.

The 7-nanometer Apple A13 Bionic processor has been replaced by the advanced 5-nanometer Apple A14 Bionic – with six computing cores, quad-core graphics and a 16-core Neural Engine. The chip contains 11.8 billion transistors, which is 3 billion more than the previous generation. The basic amount of internal memory has doubled: instead of 64 GB, the iPhone 12 Pro has 128 GB.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

Unbelievable, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max has become the largest iPhone in the history of the line – its diagonal is 6.7 inches. In terms of specifications and appearance, the model is largely identical to the iPhone 12 Pro, including four color options. The main differences are the price, the level of autonomy and the equipment of the triple camera.

The camera system now includes four sensors – main, ultra-wide, telephoto and LiDAR scanner. The sensor has increased by 47% with a pixel size of 1.7 μm. Moreover, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has received improved optical image stabilization technology: instead of a heavier lens, the matrix itself moves.
