First UFO hearing in 50 years to be held in US on May 17
The House of Representatives will hold a public congressional hearing on unidentified aircraft (UFOs) for the first time in over 50 years.
The hearing will focus on the Pentagon program known as the Aircraft Identification and Control Group. It was created last year after the US intelligence community released a preliminary assessment of 144 “unidentified airborne phenomena” reports since 2004 – and could only explain one.
“The American people expect and deserve that their leaders in government and intelligence seriously assess and respond to any potential national security risks, especially those we do not fully understand,” said Indiana Democratic Rep. Andre Carson. , chairman of the subcommittee holding the meeting.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff added that the hearings “will give the public an opportunity to hear directly from experts in the field and leaders of the intelligence community about one of the greatest mysteries of our time and break the cycle of over-secrecy and speculation with truth and transparency.”
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the Department of Defense will try to “make sure we have a better process for identifying these phenomena, analyzing this information in a more active and coordinated way than has been done in the past.” He said the Pentagon will also try to “mitigate any security concerns” that arise as “many of these events” are recorded near the landfills.
The hearing will take place on May 17.
