Finally, wireless headphones will support Lossless. Qualcomm S7 and S7 Pro Gen 1 SoCs with Micro-power Wi-Fi support introduced
Qualcomm introduced the Qualcomm S7 and S7 Pro Gen 1 single-chip systems, which should significantly change the wireless headphone market.
The new products are audio platforms, the main feature of which is support for technology that Qualcomm calls Micro-power Wi-Fi.
As the name suggests, this is a very low power consumption version of Wi-Fi. This technology allows data transfer at speeds of up to 29 Mbit/s, which, accordingly, opens up new possibilities for wireless headphones. And these possibilities are greater than one might think.
Firstly, this is, of course, lossless sound transmission. Qualcomm itself talks about 24-bit/192 kHz mode. Bluetooth simply doesn’t allow for that much data transfer, which is why Bluetooth headphones don’t support Lossless. Now, it looks like Qualcomm is making it possible.
Secondly, the range of Micro-power Wi-Fi is much greater than that of Bluetooth.
Another feature that Qualcomm is touting even more than Lossless support is its AI capabilities. The new platforms provide six times more computing power and almost 100 times (!) more artificial intelligence performance than previous generation platforms.
You might think that headphones don’t require any powerful AI, but Qualcomm is talking about more advanced noise reduction systems and sound enhancement technologies.
It has not yet been announced when the first products with new platforms will appear.

Noise reduction up to 52 dB, IP54, LHDC 5.0 and 38 hours of battery life for $55. Redmi Buds 5 Pro headphones presented

The range of Redmi wireless headphones has today been expanded with the Redmi Buds 5 Pro model. This is essentially an improved version of the Buds 5 headphones introduced in September. The Pro version has stronger active noise cancellation with three microphones and two speakers instead of one.
Each earphone has a 10mm tweeter and an 11mm bass driver, providing surround sound. The declared efficiency of the active noise reduction system is 52 dB, while three levels of “transparency” are provided (transmission of background noise). The design of Redmi Buds 5 Pro is the same as the regular version, it has IP54 protection and supports LHDC 5.0 codec.
The maximum autonomy is 38 hours (the headphones themselves can work up to 10 hours without noise cancellation and up to 6.5 hours with the ANC system activated). The Redmi Buds 5 Pro costs $55.
In addition to Redmi Buds 5 Pro, Redmi today presented the Redmi K70 Pro, Redmi K70 and K70E smartphones, Redmi Watch 4 smartwatches, RedmiBook 14 2024 and RedmiBook 16 2024 laptops.
