Specialists of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted their own research, on the basis of which they shared recommendations for choosing batteries, warning everyone about a large number of counterfeit and even dangerous products.

The FBI warns that users should not skimp on batteries. The bureau claims that alternative manufacturers produce counterfeit batteries, which can lead to overheating, reduced performance, damage to the device, or even complete failure. The FBI talked about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to buying batteries.

The FBI encourages “always buy batteries from legal and trusted sources” as they have been extensively tested and are safe for use in any product. Purchasing batteries from unreliable or third party suppliers can be risky as these products look like genuine batteries but are not. It is also recommended to “avoid aftermarket batteries whenever possible because they can be dangerous.”

It is strictly forbidden to buy batteries that:

  • Has damaged packaging
  • Have typos or misspellings on labels
  • Have labels that peel off
  • They do not have official manufacturer’s batch numbers.
