Facebook named the cause of the largest outage in its services and commented on information about the leak of information about 1.5 billion users

The company Facebook named the reason for the largest failure in the work of its services and officially commented on the information that more than 1.5 billion accounts are in the hands of hackers. The information that hackers are selling a huge database with information about 1.5 billion users appeared shortly after the problems with Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, which have already been resolved.

Facebook reported: “The service has been restored and we are working hard to bring it back to normal operation completely. There is no evidence that user data was leaked due to the downtime. We believe that the main reason for this downtime is an error while changing the configuration.“.

Facebook added that the problems caused configuration changes to the backbone routers that coordinate network communications between data centers. The interruption of network traffic had a cascading effect. This ultimately caused the services to crash and users were unable to refresh their pages. The company reiterates that the main reason for downtime is incorrect configuration changes. Facebook twice emphasized that no user data went to the black market because of this downtime.

To all people and companies around the world that depend on us, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the shutdown of all our platforms today. We have worked hard to restore access and now our systems are up and running. At this point, we want to make it clear that we believe that the main cause of this failure was misconfiguration.

In any case, users can benefit from changing their account passwords. Recall that the problems of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have already been ridiculed by Telegram and ordinary users.
