Even Tesla has not escaped problems with the production of cars. For two years, Elon Musk’s company set records until the second quarter of 2022 came.
Analysts predicted that the second quarter of this year would interrupt a two-year history of constant growth in the production and shipments of Tesla electric vehicles, and everything happened. In the second quarter of this year, Elon Musk’s company produced 258,580 cars and delivered 254,695 to the market.
Compared to the same quarter last year, there is an increase in deliveries by more than 50,000 vehicles, but the figures for the second quarter are worse than those for the first: in the first three months of this year, the company produced 305,407 cars, and shipped 310,048 cars to customers.
Perhaps the company could have performed as well in the second quarter as the first, if not for the suspension of production at the plant in Shanghai. “Current problems in the supply chain and plant shutdowns beyond our control,” the company pointed out in a comment accompanying the supply and sales report. Interestingly, June 2022, according to official data, turned out to be the month of the highest production of Tesla cars in history. Perhaps this is a consequence of Elon Musk’s demand for company employees to roll up their sleeves and return to the offices for fruitful work.

Volkswagen and Audi production saved: global IT failure resolved

The problems in the IT systems of the German automaker Volkswagen have been resolved, and production at the company’s factories in Germany is resuming. This was reported by the Bild newspaper with reference to a representative of the automaker.
“The IT infrastructure problems on the Volkswagen network were resolved overnight and the network is operating reliably again,” a Volkswagen spokesman said on Thursday, September 28.
The global production network is up and running, affected factories are back online and production should proceed as planned. Individual systems may still be unstable during the transition phase. Volkswagen found no indication that external influences caused the failure.
Earlier it became known that an IT failure affected most of the Volkswagen group. A significant part of IT systems and production was affected. In some cases, conveyors stopped and email did not work. The problem also affected other brands of the group, including Audi.

The first ever Genesis coupe-crossover GV80 Coupe and its brother GV80 are presented

Genesis introduced the Genesis GV80 Coupe and GV80. The interior of the automaker’s first coupe-crossover features a 27-inch display, which is inherited from the standard GV80.
From the front, the models look identical, with sportier air intakes on the bumper. However, a closer look reveals that the GV80 Coupe has additional slits under the grille and the GV80 has a slightly different skid plate design.
At the rear, the production version of the Genesis GV80 Coupe doesn’t get the concept’s full-length LED taillights, but does retain a rear spoiler. The rear bumper also differs from the standard GV80 with a black surround around the diffuser and four tailpipes.
The Genesis GV80 Coupe is 4,965 mm long, 25 mm longer than the GV80 due to the slightly extended rear overhang. The Genesis GV80 Coupe is also 5mm lower due to the lack of roof rails, and they share the same width and wheelbase.
The 27-inch OLED display combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system into one unit. The center console has also been redesigned to include a combination of touchscreen controls and physical knobs for the HVAC system, a new wireless smartphone charging tray and larger cup holders.
High-quality materials such as leather, aluminum and wood create a premium ambience, combined with a two-tone Bentley-style steering wheel and ambient lighting. Other features include a 14.6-inch rear-seat display, four-zone climate control, a fragrance system, heated armrests, crystal grips and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. The GV80 Coupe features a cut-off steering wheel, metal pedal accents, and exclusive interior packages with different color combinations than the GV80.
The updated GV80 is available with either a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 hp. and torque of 422 Nm, or with a 3.5-liter turbo V6 engine producing 375 hp. In addition to these options, the GV80 Coupe is also offered with a more powerful version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 48-volt electric supercharger that increases output to 409 hp. The same engine is offered in the flagship G90 sedan.
GV80 Coupe drivers have access to an active exhaust system for a sportier sound and can customize brake pedal response. In addition, the most powerful GV80 coupe gets an exclusive Sports+ driving mode, launch control and new graphics for the digital instrument cluster displaying oil temperature, torque and turbo pressure.
Both GV80 models are equipped with systems such as Preview electronic suspension control, AI-powered automatic Terrain mode and an upgraded ADAS package that improves safety along with 10 airbags.

Mercedes-Benz has surpassed Tesla: the Germans are the first to launch Level 3 autopilot. Subscription price announced

Mercedes-Benz is releasing a new version of Drive Pilot, becoming the first automaker in the world to offer certified Level 3 autonomous driving technology in the United States.
Level 3 autopilot, let us remind you, implies the ability for the driver to completely let go of the steering wheel and go about his business, but still be ready to take control at any time.
Such a system will be available in the fourth quarter of this year via subscription to residents of California and Nevada. There are also plans to expand its availability to more states in the future. Drive Pilot: First Class will initially be available on the electric EQS sedan and S-Class.
“Drive Pilot is a technological watershed and an incredible step forward in the quest for automated driving,” said Dimitris Psillakis, CEO of Mercedes USA. “This innovative system reaffirms our commitment to being a leader in safety and technology while giving our customers valuable time back in busy traffic conditions.”
The automaker says owners will be able to activate the service through the Mercedes me Connect store. An annual subscription will start at $2,500 for the first year, with Mercedes noting that it will announce additional options at a later date.
Available at speeds of up to 64km/h on suitable sections of motorway, the system is ideal for rush hour driving and uses a suite of sensors to help you navigate the road safely. In addition to cameras, the system uses lidar, road moisture sensors and microphones to detect when emergency vehicles are nearby.
“Drive Pilot is the world’s first and only semi-automated driving system with internationally valid type approval,” said Markus Schafer, Mercedes technical director. — The system is designed on a complex system architecture based on the redundancy of many different types of sensors. I firmly believe that redundancy is the key to safe automated driving for Level 3 and beyond.”
Mercedes expects the technology to be rolled out to more owners of 2024 model year vehicles.
Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz became the first car company in the United States to receive a Level 3 Autopilot license.
