Even brighter and more reliable: Samsung has developed a unique technology for QLED displays

Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), Samsung’s R&D center, announced the creation of advanced technology that will make quantum dot displays even more reliable and better. The new production technology is said to be unique in the world.

For those who don’t know, the design of QLED panels consists of a layer of quantum dots, which is illuminated by LED backlighting, which is usually blue LEDs. Quantum dots with a diameter of several nanometers (tens of thousands of times thinner than a human hair), absorbing the radiation of LEDs, emit three colors onto the upper crystal layer – blue, red and green. Moreover, blue quantum dots are the most difficult to implement. But engineers at Samsung’s R&D Center have succeeded in developing blue quantum dot technology with improved efficiency, brightness, and long runtime. It increases luminous efficacy by more than 20%, maximizes brightness up to 88,900 nits, and lifespan up to 16,000 hours.

Samsung hopes that its new development will accelerate the commercialization of quantum dot displays. True, the company does not specify the timing of the implementation of the new production technology.
