Microsoft surprised everyone with the inflated requirements for processors for running Windows 11, but the absence of a CPU in the list of officially supported ones does not mean that it cannot run a new OS on it, just some of its functions will not be available. In fact, even single-board PCs and old smartphones are suitable for running Windows 11.

Twitter user Gustave Monce posted a video in which Windows 11 runs pretty well (albeit not without brakes) on a six-year-old Microsoft Lumia 950 XL smartphone! Moreover, according to the enthusiast, most of the functions are quite functional, including such a smartphone that allows you to make calls.

It should be noted that Microsoft Lumia 950 XL is a fairly common model for experimenting with installing different versions of Windows. Initially, the smartphone came out with Windows 10 Mobile, and later other assemblies began to be installed on it. Now the turn has come to Windows 11.

Another enthusiast – a user of the popular American Reddit forum – launched Windows 11 on a single board computer Raspberry Pi 4. It is even noted that Windows 11 runs faster on it than Windows 10.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is the first smartphone with Android

Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold4, was unveiled this week and is immediately available for pre-order. According to Samsung, the new foldable flagship comes with One UI 4.1.1 out of the box and has a host of new features for optimal multitasking that have been developed “together with partners.”

The main attention during the announcement was given to design, screens and cameras, but an important novelty went unnoticed. The fact is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is the first smartphone that will ship out of the box with the Android 12L operating system.

Google initially introduced the L version of Android 12 back in October 2021, and then reminded about it six months later. L stands for large screens, meaning this operating system is designed for foldable smartphones, tablets, and Chrome OS devices. Android 12L can be installed on any device, but it’s optimized for multitasking and apps have been redesigned for larger screens.

Google apps are arranged in two columns, making it easier to navigate on the square display, while productivity and social media apps also know when the device is folded, so they switch to their normal orientation.

Android 12L will only be in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 for now, the small Flip4 clamshell has received the standard version of Android 12.

In the morning we published a comparison of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.

The smartphone market is declining but Apple does not

According to Bloomberg, Apple does not expect iPhone sales to fall in 2022 amid a general slowdown in the smartphone market. The Cupertino-based company expects iPhone demand to continue strong and has asked suppliers to produce 90 million iPhone 14 models, which is the same as the iPhone 13 production in the same period last year.

Apple expects to release about 220 million iPhones in 2022, which is the same level as 2021 production. Bloomberg sources said that Apple could weather the downturn in the smartphone market because Apple’s customer base is still willing to spend money on premium devices.

Until 2021, Apple released about 75 million new smartphones. In 2021, that number increased to 90 million as the company anticipated high demand for iPhone 13 models, and Apple is now sticking to that bar for 2022.

Earlier, Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst at Tianfeng International, said that the current supply chain of the iPhone 14 line of smartphones has not been affected, so the smartphones will be released as scheduled.

For the first time in five years, Apple is due to radically change the design of its flagship smartphones: judging by the available data, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will lose the notch that appeared in the iPhone X and will receive screens with two cutouts. Some people call these cutouts an exclamation point, others think they look like the letter i.

While this change has been met with mixed reception, according to user feedback on social media, it does allow for more effective screen real estate. This note provides a comparison of the screens of the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro.

This design, in theory, will allow more icons and other information to be displayed in the status bar on either side of the cutouts.

This week, Apple released another beta version of iOS 16 to developers, which returned the battery percentage icon to the top right of the screen. However, not everyone liked this decision.

The presentation of the iPhone 14 line is expected in September. The minimum amount of flash memory iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be 256 GB, so smartphones will rise in price.
