Elon Musk’s giant rocket Starship will have a competitor. China is preparing its reusable super-heavy rocket Long March 9
China is working on a heavy reusable rocket like SpaceX’s Starship. The chief designer of the Long March missile series, Long Lehao, spoke about its concept.
It is expected that the first stage of the launch vehicle with a diameter of 10.6 meters will be equipped with 26 engines with a thrust of 200 tons, running on a mixture of liquid oxygen and methane. Such fuel provides greater thrust to engines and protects them from increased soot formation and coking. Of course, for a reusable rocket, such fuel is better than traditional fuel. It is not for nothing that Starship uses liquid methane as a fuel, and liquid oxygen acts as an oxidizing agent.
The rocket will be capable of delivering 150 tons of payload to low Earth orbit, 65 tons to geotransfer orbit, or 50 tons to lunar orbit. In the maximum configuration, the heavy Long March 9 will apparently consist of three steps. Its height (or length) will be 110 meters, and the launch weight will be 4122 tons. For comparison, the length of the Starship with the Super Heavy booster is 120 meters, its launch weight is 5000 tons.
In general, you can see who the Chinese look up to. It is expected that the first launches of the heavy reusable Long March 9 will take place around 2035. However, before this year, China will prepare several more new missiles. First, there will be a one-time option – it should appear earlier, by 2030.
It would seem, what is the point of releasing a disposable rocket if it will be reusable, and they are being developed in parallel? The fact is that China sets a lot of ambitious tasks for space exploration, and even a new disposable rocket created by 2030 will be of great help in future missions.
At the same time, China will build a relatively small reusable rocket with a diameter of about 5 meters. She will also receive methane-oxygen engines and will replace the current Long March rockets running on kerosene.

Take fire on yourself: the creators spoke about the capabilities of the Surrogat-B underwater drone

The Surrogat-V underwater drone, codenamed Vedomoy, presented at the Army 2022 forum, can imitate a submarine, distract the enemy, and also take fire on itself.
An important function of the “Surrogate” is the imitation of a covered boat. By depicting its hydroacoustic “portrait” with the help of onboard means, the drone will be able to lead the enemy on a false trail or cause fire on itself. It is very difficult to get into it because of its small size and good maneuverability.
Representative of the Central Design Bureau “Rubin”.
Like the first Surrogate, the drone can imitate a submarine in exercises, testing new detection systems and anti-submarine weapons. The drone is equipped with sonar countermeasures, which allows you to play very complex tactical episodes.
The “Surrogate” drone was presented along with a mock-up of the prospective strategic nuclear submarine “Arktur”. In the aft part of the submarine there are two lockable compartments intended for Surrogates. Drones can also act as “sentinels”, patrolling the waters around the submarine on combat duty.
The developers also drew the attention of journalists to the camouflage of blue triangles on the top of the drone, which should reduce the visibility of the device for anti-submarine aircraft and drones.
Recall that the displacement of the drone is 40 tons, and the range reaches 1500 km.

For HIMARS and M270, missiles with a range of 500 and 650 km are being tested

In Europe, a new JFS-M missile is being developed, which will be capable of hitting targets at a distance of 500 km. The missile can be launched using the M270 and HIMARS systems.
The length of the rocket is 2.6 m, it belongs to the cruise class: after launch, it expands the wing with a span of 1.5 m. With a launch weight of 250-300 kg, the rocket is capable of speeds up to 1,000 km/h. One HIMARS cassette holds two JFS-M missiles.
In the air, the missile travels at low altitudes, making it invisible to air defense systems. With the help of the JFS-M rocket, you can destroy “standard infrastructure”. It is not suitable for the destruction of “heavily armored bunkers”.
The missile’s flight path is adjustable. The operator of the complex can change it after start-up.
The US is also developing a missile for HIMARS, the PrSM (precision strike missile) or precision strike missile, which can have a range of up to 650 km.

The best camera phone on the way? Huawei Mate 50 launched in mass production, it will be presented on September 7 along with smart watches Huawei Watch GT4

Huawei has started mass production of the new Mate 50 flagship smartphones, according to a Chinese resource that cites supply chain sources. Huawei has traditionally been very strong in terms of camera capabilities, and it is possible that some Mate 50 Pro will top the DxOMark rankings in the future. .
In general, four models are expected in the series: Mate 50e, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS. They will receive curved screens from local (Chinese) manufacturers and the recently introduced HarmonyOS 3.0. The younger model is credited with SoC Snapdragon 778G, all the rest – Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 without 5G support. However, some sources also talk about the use of Snapdragon 888 (also in the version with an LTE modem), so not everything is clear here yet.
The premiere of Huawei Mate 50 in China is expected on September 7, on the same day the company may introduce the Watch GT4 smart watch. There are no special details about this device: it is only reported that the watch will receive a larger screen than the current model, improved optical sensors and, of course, HarmonyOS 3.0.
