During Investor Day 2023, Tesla showed a new video featuring Optimus humanoid robots. Nineteen months after it was first announced, the Tesla robot now walks and performs various tasks.

Elon Musk added that as recently as October of last year, it had to be rolled onto the stage to wave to the public: “So the speed of development is quite significant. Obviously it’s not parkour, it’s walking, but we already have a few Optimus.”

The video shows Optimus walking, albeit rather slowly compared to the parkour-trained Atlas robot. He also uses opposable thumbs and humanoid hands. In the scene shown, one robot first takes a mechanical arm from the stand, then transfers it to the assembly site, where the second robot fastens the arm of the third one.

It’s important to note that Boston Dynamics has been working on humanoid robots since 1992. She introduced the humanoid robot PETMAN in 2009. Atlas debuted in 2013, and it took a full 10 years to learn how to dance, do parkour, and start doing some basic tasks.

Tesla’s robots will offer what others don’t – the most advanced artificial intelligence, Musk said. In addition, specially designed drives have been created for Optimus: “We developed the electric motor, gearbox, power electronics, obviously the battery, everything else that goes into Optimus. We were very surprised to find how little was available off the shelf. There are a huge number of electric motors, gearboxes and other things in the world, and we found that none of them are suitable for humanoid robots.

Elon Musk added that investors do not yet realize the potential of the direction, but the robots in the future will surpass the automotive division in terms of business volume.

In China, the Land Cruiser Prado 250 turned out to be about 10 thousand dollars more expensive than in the USA. Moreover, the Toyota SUV turned out to be more expensive than both the Tank 700 Hi4-T and BYD Leopard 5, although it is inferior to them in innovation, equipment and power. But the Chinese vote for the Japanese brand with their wallets. By the way, ordering a car is confirmed by a deposit of 5,000 yuan—that’s $695.

Let us remind you that the full premiere of the Land Cruiser Prado 250 in China will take place at the Beijing Motor Show on April 25, and retail prices will be announced at the same time.
