Elon Musk promised to do everything possible to prevent the rise of machines

Elon Musk announced that he is thinking about involving Tesla in the creation of the so-called artificial general intelligence (Artificial General Intelligence, AGI) with broad capabilities. He added that he plans to decentralize control of the Tesla Bots to avoid a machine uprising and a scenario from the Terminator universe.

Musk claims that Tesla is the world’s leading company when it comes to real-world AI applications. He describes Tesla’s fleet of self-driving sensors and computers as “robots on wheels.” Musk says Tesla has the best AI team on the planet. Last year at the Tesla AI day event, the automaker unveiled its latest Dojo supercomputer to train its neural networks. The company also announced that it plans to release Tesla Bot humanoid robots designed to perform common tasks and repetitive work.

In a recent Twitter post, Musk noted that Tesla could go even further and get into AI General Intelligence: “Tesla AI could play a role in the development of AI, given that it trains against the outside world, especially with the advent of Optimus.” Optimus or Optimus Subprime is the code name Musk gave to the Tesla Bot robots.

Along with announcing that Tesla may be working on building artificial general intelligence, Musk also added that the company will make sure to decentralize control over its robots: “We will do our best. Decentralized control of robots will be critical.”

The source adds that the decentralization of control over Tesla bots will not even theoretically allow them access to military technology. Musk has previously said he tentatively expects Tesla to have working prototypes of Tesla Bots by the end of 2022.
