Elon Musk does not guarantee success: “SpaceX will try to catch the largest spaceship in history with robotic chopsticks”

SpaceX founder Elon Musk posted a new message on his Twitter page regarding a future robotic arm called Mechazilla. This structure will be used to trap the Space Heavy booster and the Starship as they return to Earth.

SpaceX will try to catch the largest spaceship in history with robotic chopsticks. I can’t guarantee success, but it will definitely be fun.

Elon Musk

If the company manages to carry out its plans, then the Super Heavy’s landing will be something like a take-off maneuver, when the robotic towers fire a rocket, but in the opposite direction. This landing idea is not new: SpaceX originally planned to use such technology to meet the returning ships. Landing Starship on a platform equipped with a mechanized arm reduces the re-flight time to an hour or less, as stated by Elon Musk himself.

From what Musk said, he is preparing everyone for the possibility of an emergency landing. The risk of this operation lies not only in the possible loss of the accelerator, but also in the simultaneous destruction of the capture and landing system. The platform itself, on which the rocket should land, is a complex and expensive design.

As intended, Mechazilla is designed to improve landing reliability, but only tests will show how reliable this design will actually be.

Mercedes-Benz today announced the cost of its large EQS sedan, which is an electric version of the flagship S-Class. And, I must say, the price was somewhat unexpected, because the EQS turned out to be cheaper than the gasoline version.

The EQS will go on sale in the US this fall, and the basic version of the EQS 450+ is priced at $ 103,360. And that’s not including the $ 7,500 federal subsidy. The second option, EQS 580 4MATIC, is more expensive – $ 126,360. For comparison, the cost of a gasoline S-Class in the US starts at $ 112,150, and there are no subsidies.

The power of the single-engine version of the EQS (that is, the basic EQS 450+) is 329 hp, the power of the all-wheel drive version (EQS 580 4MATIC) is 516 hp. The claimed acceleration time to 100 km / h is about 4 s, the maximum speed is limited at around 210 km / h. The cars are equipped with traction batteries with a capacity of 90 and 107.7 kWh, in the second case, the declared mileage on one charge is 770 km (according to the WLTP cycle, in reality it will be less). In both cases, the proprietary multimedia system MBUX is provided, but the screen diagonal in the EQS 450+ is 12.8 inches, and in the EQS 580 4MATIC a 56-inch “hyperscreen” is installed.

But cyberattacks will be answered

The United States does not seek to unleash a new Cold War and does not want to see the world split into tough blocs, said US President Joe Biden at the general political debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (GA).

“We do not want a return of the Cold War or a world divided into blocs,” Biden said in his first US presidential address from the UN rostrum.

“The United States is ready to cooperate with any state that is ready to solve existing problems,” the American leader added.

Biden also noted that Washington is in favor of developing uniform rules for the safe behavior of states in cyberspace. The US is strengthening its infrastructure to better defend against foreign hackers.

Biden stressed that the country reserves the right to respond to hacker attacks in the strongest possible way because they threaten the people and interests of the United States.
